    Re: Got pulled over

I once passed 18 parked NH State Police with expired out of state plates and inspection in my '68 VW Beetle that had a wire coming from my battery under the rear seat, thru the side window back to the engine lid, then inside the engine compartment to the coil

the point of this thread was not to say who is right or wrong or delve into the legal aspects or respect issues that people perceive there to be. it was simply to inform those who are towing through mass to be aware.
5+ is "reasonable and prudent" for the conditions. traffic was moderate at worst. sky was clear. visibility good.
at no point during our conversation on the side of the road did the topic of my speed or passing him come up.
i pass cops all the time, but im never doing more than 10+. only once have i been stopped for it and it was in AZ with some cop that had a trainee in the car he was showing off for. i fought and won that ticket.

    Re: Got pulled over

So Oxx is actually right about the signs. I have traveled 495 many times and not once have I seen the "trucks prohibited from left lane" signage.

Additionally maybe it should say no commercial vehicles and trailers, but that would make sense, be clear and would lead to almost no tickets or reasons for cops to pull people over.

Im not sure at what point I passed through that area, but I will say that same evening, with my Tundra and even larger trailer I was in the left lane at times cause people were moving slower than the speed limit. Additionally another person not a motorcycle person, but a contractor with a 8.5x20 trailer and a 2500HD passed me using the left lane doing 75+ in the vicinity of the Lawrence area.

Not saying this is right but if traffic aint moving and I am, Im going by and keeping traffic flowing.

Basically if the law was followed as that cop stated then mostly small passenger cars would be the only things allowed in the left lane. My Tundra comes in over 5000 pounds, thought the tacomas were sub 5000.

The thing that I am highly interested in is this permit they speak of? Additionally why would anyone towing a trailer say 7000 GVWR or less have a permit for it if your home state does not require it. Im sure there has to be something out there on this, maybe Im just dumb cause I thought that commercial towing like tractor trailers had to have permits cause well the weight being towed can degraded the road if its more than what its rated for.

    Anyways end rant/ramble

    What principle?

Taking a trailer into the left lane on a multi-lane highway is asking for it.

Passing a marked LEO is asking for it.

Taking a trailer into the left lane while passing a marked LEO is simply begging for it.

I drove a box truck with 16' trailer for a couple years and learned one simple rule.......do what the big rigs do. Signage be damned.

If a trailer is safe going 65 in the middle lane, what makes it dangerous going 65 in the left lane?

    DO NOT QUESTION YOUR RULERS

    - - - Updated - - -

Apparently I break the law ALL THE FUCKING TIME towing down to Deal's Gap.

Worth it to get there in a reasonable time. Oh well. Haven't been pulled over yet. But then again, I'd rather make a quick pass than be part of the traffic problem clogging our highways. But wtf do I know?

I didn't realize I was so predictable Next we can discuss towing with vehicles whose owners manual doesn't provide maximum weights claim to not support towing. And everyone knows to run diesel motor oil in their bikes.

I don't think anyone here will disagree with you about +5 being more than reasonable, but I'm pretty sure that isn't how the highway laws work in most of New England (varies in other states). It's completely up to the officer's discretion and they can ticket you for that amount. Trust me. I apparently bear a slight resemblance to arm-chair lawyer.

When you're done kissing our shoes, then you'll have our respect too. Common sense only dictates that if the officer is an embarrassment to their department.

This kind of rationality has no place in this discussion. Don't be such a punk.

The real answer on 495 is that you're going at least 25mph slower than the pace so GTFO.

    Re: Got pulled over

Where was this statie yesterday? I was coming down 495 and there was a huge truck in the far left shoulder going 10mph, one right next to him in the fast lane going the same speed, and two more in the consecutive lanes across. All going 10 mph, spaced really tight. And those damned plows on the front of the trucks completely blocked any passing maneuver...
