    The re-purposing thread

I know that we all reuse stuff, sometimes for a purpose not even close to the original intent. This thread is to share ideas and maybe get help trying to re-purpose something

my gf Anne, is the queen of re-purposing, from simple turning a worn out tee shirt into a shopping bag to turning plasting shopping bags into yarn

One of the things I do is stack old tires into raised garden beds.

I'm trying to figure out how to turn an old CPAP machine into a power bong

The Corps of Engineers has proposed recycling sleep apnea equipment as respirators for Covid-19 patients. They are looking at repurposing closed college dorms and hotels as expedient ICU’s.

Good chance the DCU center is going into a make shift triage/treatment center.

    Re: The re-purposing thread

It can be pricey to get into. I use a single head ram and it takes a long time to load many rounds. Progressives are fast but expensive.
Dies can cost around $40 for a set, and that is per caliber.
I haven't priced it up in a while but not sure the cost benefits anymore. But you can probably find reloading supplies easier than actual rounds right now. But again, not sure. Most of my reloading over the past years has been 12ga skeet. And that is another set up.

Reloading is like racing... the answer to that question is "How much ya got?"

Cheapest I would recommend would be like $170 for bench press and a set of dies

    Lee stuff cheap but serviceable

Last time I ran numbers on 9mm it was a few thousand rounds before the equipment paid for itself. That was assuming the slippery slope you slide down isn't too steep and you don't all the toys you possibly could get

Like Oreo said. You can start with a single stage on the cheap but it is very time consuming. I bought a Dillon 650 progressive after years of using the single stage and there is no comparison.

I imagine .45 and especially .454, pays for itself a little quicker

I'm sure it would. I only really have 9mm and 5.56 and have zero interest in reloading 5.56 so I only looked at 9mm. This was years ago though as well.

.454 would be the driver for me getting into it, I use 45acp as well as 45 and 454, I have been able to find 45acp in bulk at reasonable price, not as cheap as steel cased 7.62x39, but cheap enuf, it would probaby be like 9mm and take in the thousands to get payback, I don't shoot that much

price on .454 varies so much as does the grains of the bullet, I'd like to try out more, do I wanna use a 260 grain that goes 1900 ft/sec, or a 450 grain that goes 1400 ft/sec buying a box of this and another box of that gets expensive quick

I might find someone that I would pay to reload for me though, if I could save a few $$I save ALL my brass

I wanna hang a tarp next to my shooting bench, to make that easier
