I believe there were two recalls on the Taco. the 1st one they where buying back the truck? The second one they where replacing the frames. A coworker had is truck recalled and they took it for two mouths and they swapped everything over onto a new frame.. He did get to drive a new truck for the summer...The frame recalls on the Tacoma really changed the market on those trucks.
They've earned a lot of customers with that recall. Yeah, they had a rusty frame, but they stood behind their product. See if GM recalls any of their mid 2000's rusted frames.

the funny thing is we had issues with them from low mileage and they were dealer maintained leases before we ended up buying some of them...the engines scream like you are flying and you're barely moving...had a couple that the fuel pumps would cut out while you were driving...i've personally had to coast over to the shoulder (luckily the guard rail just ended) from the passing lane to reset the fuel pump on 95...fvck those trucks!...the only reason they run them is cause they have a slightly smaller footprint than a f150 cause we are working in the road most of the time and we want other vehicles to be able to pass easier...cause it definitely wasn't due to fuel mileage...they got basically the same mileage as a f150 which is why they stopped making them i believe...we just got a new chevy colorado and i was impressed with how much better it was even comparing to the rangers when they were new but then again it's newer technology...maybe the new rangers will be better

exactly...my parents 98 tacoma was bought back and they bought another 11 tacoma regular cab base 2wd...and then when they wanted to get down from 3 vehicles to 2 they traded in a 98 corolla and the 11 tacoma regular cab base 2wd and bought a 15 tacoma extra cab 4x4

I will give Toyota kudos for standing behind there product. Other manufacturers should do the same. Just dont believe its cost effective to replace the frame? But I guess it is. Otherwise they wouldn't do it.
Dudes i knew in toyota service departments were banking money that that time.
The entire benefit of a Jeep off road is it's short wheelbase.

But that isn't the entire benefit of a Jeep Wrangler.
I think I said it before: Ride around in a Wrangler with a soft-top on and the doors off and you kind of start to get it. Doesn't even need to be off-road. My old man's got had a string of 'em now that are garage queens. He just spent some time tracking down a fairly rust-free TJ with the merc 6-speed and now claims it won't ever see snow again as long as he has it. He's old and can't/won't ride anymore. A Wrangler with the doors off is as close as he's getting these days. And I get it. If the wife would let me put her kids in a Wrangler I might have not bought the Harley and gotten one of them instead.
For a while the Wrangler was the cheapest convertible on the market.
I think there is room for this thing. It brings more to the table than most of the midsize trucks on the market now.

Drove a brand new 2019 RTL-T today.
Pretty nice. Was basically exactly what I expected it would be. Rode much better over the chop than the body on frame trucks I've ridden/driven in.

Is a New Compact Unibody Chevy Pickup on the Way? - The Fast Lane Truck
“GM is working on an all-new compact unibody pickup truck to replace the Latin-American Chevy Montana.”
“Sadly, the current consensus is that GM will not be bringing their compact pickup to the United States. At least, not right away. ”

Interesting comparison between the Ranger, Colorado, Ridgeline, and Tacoma: CHEVROLET COLORADO VS. FORD RANGER VS. HONDA RIDGELINE VS. TOYOTA TACOMA: DOWN ON THE FARM
Interesting
1. Chevrolet Colorado
2. Honda Ridgeline
3. Ford Ranger
4. Toyota Tacoma

My wife and i put a few hundred miles on a mid level Colorado and it was surprisingly good. the infotainment system was top notch. but the gauges do look a bit dated. but gm has a very nice lcd screen that give the driver a ton of info, so i could let the gauge thing slide. my wife wants thrilled about the baby stoller rolling around in the bed though.
I think i would still lean towards the ridgeline as its bigger inside and way nicer to drive.
