Accurate jab is accurate. I do want to put it in the dirt and let it eat a bit, and try some rocks, but it's not going to see that very often. 99% of the time it'll be a daily driver that gets some extra abuse in the winter.

FWIW, the newer Wranglers, both JK and JL, are far more capable out of the box than any Jeep that came before it. Yes, many are piloted by yuppies, but they can put it big time work on the trail.

Pretty sure I would jump right into a Jeep Gladiator. $35k gets you a sport, and you're really not lacking much. I can tell you from experience that my JK didn't need a hard top in the winter. Toss in the roll up tonneau cover and the spray in bed liner for a grand and that's all the options I need. 6 speed MT, 7,000 towing, I'm sold.

First Shipment Of Jeep Gladiators Head To Dealers

Prices for the Gladiator starts at $33,545, but a person can take the price significantly higher by picking higher trim levels and loading up the options. The range-topping Rubicon grade has a base price of $43,545, and ticking every available option box results in a pickup that costs $64,110.

Get your jeeps quickly, heard Renault wants to merge with Fiat Chrysler, which could be a bit disastrous.

    Pick one. Can't have both.

4500lb towing limit on the 6 speed.

To get the max towing, you need to go to the 8-speed slushbox.

Damn that fine print. That said, I'm good with 4,500 anyway.

Underrating the MT is always bullshit anyway. Unless you try to drop the clutch from a dead stop on a 15% incline every single day you'd probably be fine anyway.

So far I'm pleased with the slushbox, did very light towing this weekend (dump runs clearing the basement out) and no complaints. Hoping to tow the enclosed trailer in a couple weekends to see how that fares.

Going to be strange to see you driving such a main stream vehicle. I've always known you for having more off the beaten path (wait for the Jeep comment) taste in motor vehicles of both the 2 and 4 wheel variety. Yes you had a highlander but it was the hybrid one. Before that the Subaru, which in New England isn't so off the beaten path but it isn't plain Jane vanilla camryesque either.

Re: Is a ridgeline a pickup?

I've gone back and forth, started in a Dodge 600, then a Dakota Sport, Isuzu Rodeo, Suzuki Vitara, Forester, Highlander, Jeep. Looking at it that way, the Jeep really isn't all that out of line for me.

Re: Is a ridgeline a pickup?

Just hit 1k miles and the only glitch was an EVAP sensor triggering a check engine light. Seems a bunch of Wranglers are getting the same code, current TSB points to a loose / partially seated connector from assembly on the sensor in question. Other than that, enjoying the truck. Initial build quality and fit and finish are good, unlike Ford there are no oddly loose fitting controls, no rattles or creaks but given it's design and intended uses I expect those to appear sooner rather than later based on reports of others. Tire / road noise is very present, wind noise actually isn't bad, especially below 55mph despite the truck being less aerodynamic than a cow. The all weather rubber floor mats are designed to allow access to the floor drain plugs but don't really sit well there as a result, minor niggle. The handling is truck like as expected, the solid axle front means more active attention is required steering than a comparable sized car based SUV. Motor is good, it has torque nearly everywhere but the delivery doesn't feel like a V8 that wants to shudder out of it's moorings off the line, it's more electric / smooth which is in some ways kinda boring. The eBoost in particular sometimes catches me off guard at lights, it anticipates launches a bit too aggressively at times resulting in a little bit of a lurch when starting rolling than planned. Otherwise the auto start/stop is smoother than it was on my Highlander. The Rubicon has upsized brakes to help deal with it's heavier upsized tires, good stopping power but I'd prefer pads with a bit more aggressive bite on the street. I suspect they're setup to be more friendly on the trail, something I hope to try out this summer. Mine does not have any of the road safety packages, no adaptive cruise control, lane assist, etc, so no idea how they do on this platform but they are available. UConnect seems to behave itself for me, no issues finding things, having the owners manual in digital format on it is interesting, I will still order a printed copy to have on hand. Glovebox is tiny, less storage space than I had before in front in general but enough to cover my needs.
