pardon the faux pas of asking about a different website, but...
how long does it generally take for a moderator to get around to approving a membership?
sheesh.
i've been waiting for days, already.

They make you wait for approval now?
ISTR when I joined they didn't make you do that, but I joined a long time ago.
They're probably running into the scaling limits of the message board software and/or database. (What boards are bigger than SBN?) Even if they throw bigger servers at it, they'll probably bog those down pretty fast too.

Harmony-Central has almost 41k members, but not as many posts as SBN. Site performance is usually very good. SBN has for a long time been one of the slowest sites I visit.Originally posted by benSV

Frequency of posting is probably the most important variable. Read performance is going to be much better than write performance.
Harmony Central sure seems to have a more intelligent group of people though!

I gave it up over there - too damned slow for my. My http://www.eclipseforums.org has 5k members and about a 50 posts/min average, and it's running on a P3 1.4 desktop server with Linux on it.. And it's fast as hell.Originally posted by JC

SBN steenks. You should just stay over here anyways.![]()
well, you know me, the social butterfly, flitting here and there.
isn't it enough for ya that NESR gets at least 75% of my (considerable) web traffic?
greedyguts.

SBN's "Open Forum" sub-board has more data in it than all of harmony-central + eclipse forum combined...
That's it right there. It'll be interesting to see if the other sites keep growing for as long as SBN has.
