fwiw: what is/was your line of work? if we know what sorta work you do, somebody on this board might know of an opening or opportunity you could check out...

    Sorry to hear about that.

    Keep an eye on www.csc.com.
Go to : Careers...Browse...Hot New Jobs.

On any given day, there is usually a couple of dozen new jobs. Many won't fit your location unless you want to move, but there are some openings around Boston. They do a bunch of I.T. work for the FAA out of Cambridge, so that may be a reasonable commute for you? It's not uncommon to see some openings for Software QE-type work.

CSC is a decent company to work for. One of the largest companies that no one has ever heard of. They are one of the few large outsourcing companies doing well right now. Big presence with US Government I.T. support, so the whole Homeland Security push is providing a lot of growth. CSC is in the process of acquiring DynCorp, which will bring them up to about 88,000 employees. Pay and benifits are industry standard.

    Good luck.

If a company just laid you off, that means they carried you through the Holidays out of courtesy.

It might seem bad to get laid off now, but I've been laid off between Thanksgiving and Christmas before.

Get a "time being" job centered around your hobbies; like to ski? get a temp job at a ski resort. How about Vanson Leathers? Brockton Cycles? Not much money but it would get you by until something better, and collect on those employee discounts in the meantime!!

    Good luck K'.

    thanks for all suggestions

first time since i've been on job market, so im not sure what to expect. the other smaller half of household income will keep things going for little while till i find something, hopefully. in the meantime there will a lot of cut corners. the bike stays of course. i'll go crazy without it.

    Hey Kham,
The Unemployment benefits will keep you going for a while won't they? I'm not sure how much it will pay but I'm sure it will help a little. Did you ever get the RR? Something will come up soon, Don't get too depressed yet big guy! A lot of people are looking out for ya.
