Oh man that dude whipped his head into the ground

Rode Stratton Friday, 3" fresh snow over an excellent base that they have established, no crowds, weather much better than forecast, and had a great time.

TL;DR. conditions were great. woods were harsh.

awesome. perfect. fast. cold. words i used to describe yesterday at the River.
it was cold when we got there (3) for our front row parking at 845.
8 of us hit the chondola at 915 and we made a bee line to Jordan. i wanted...no....needed to ride Rogue Angel. dropped in at the top and began my best run of the season. fresh cord. high speed. big carving GS turns. the natural rises of the trail made for some good air time. a top to bottom bomb run on an empty fresh trail. snow was just on the firm side of packed powder. digging in and carving was so easy. it was also my fastest run of the day at 70mph. i made laps over there until 11. only other trail worth skiing was the green circle (lollapalooza) and even that was fun to just point the skis in a downward direction and just work on basic mechanics like flexing the downhill boot and pushing that knee forward and down(gas pedal) and pushing through the turns. it really couldnt have been much better. it was a little overcast so the light was pretty flat but i didnt have any real issues like my counterparts that had chosen full sunshine lenses.

tried the woods. decent coverage but rugged. no give. as firm as the groomers were, the woods were more like a concrete skate park. no fun. 1 run was 2 too many.

made our way to Barker after lunch and it was just as awesome over there. with the (temporary) removal of the Spruce lift, that adjacent trail (risky business?) was empty and wide open full trail turns.
most everything off barker was good.
went full left to white cap. snow was great over there, but the lift is so fucking slow. it was too cold to be sitting on a lift for 10min. 1 run.
white heat was pretty good. i encountered no ice. some frozen granular but all carvable. if the light was a little better and the trail a little less undulating...it couldve been bombed (read: straight lined) top to bottom. you probably wouldve gone back through time though.

temps rose throughout the day. (16 when we left). rode until 3. i couldve kept going until last chair but my feet were getting pretty cold.

I love powder days but i equally love a great groomer day like yesterday. no lines. fresh cord. great company.

That is insane. And it reads like it was done on a snowboard. WTF? I've done 55 - flat bottom, no edges, the entire rip down - that was hairy as fuck. I must know the secret.

Oxx just lets the brakes go...
I remember our day at Jay. I was letting the speed get to the point where I started thinking "OK, getting a little dicey now" when he passed me.

    Re: Ski/Snowboard 2016/2017

Bretton Woods today. dragged my buddy and his board along. i rolled the dice on this one. the snow turned to rain overnight. i anticipated soggy conditions but it was supposed to be warm (40s) and bluebird.
i was half right. 40s and sunny. soggy the trails were not. frozen cord. not sure how it happened since temps never dropped last night. im guessing that grooming happened after the rain and the still cold snow underneath froze it all. anything not groomed was hard, some was dust-on-crust. couldnt even get an edge in. we worked our way around the mountain trying to find something worth skiing. i was having fun bombing top to bottom, my buddy was not as amused.
eventually found some good snow over on Rosebrook. at the top it was as if it never rained. baby powder like snow. dropped a few runs in over there. wish the runs werent so short though. McIntyre wasnt open either which is my favorite run on that lift.
went back to the west side but it remained crusty even though it was warm all day. wrapped the day up with a half dozen or so more runs on Rosebrook including a little cliff drop on Lower Chute.
    wrapped up at 3.
overall i give the day a 6.5. i still had fun and it got better for my buddy as the day went on.
top speed was only 58 today for those keeping score at home

Stowe both days this past weekend. The new Game of Thrones vacation complex for the .1% on the Spruce Peak side is incredible (I'm assuming because they check for an Amex Black card at the door

Mighty cold sunday morning but managed to hit 50mph carving as tight as I could. They still have the ancient old two seater on Mansfield that goes almost to the peak. Rusty and creaky but nostalgic.

Drove up to Sunapee last night to ski today. Looked like 8" on the ground (we're on the W slope of Mt Sunapee at same elevation as base lodge) and that is what they claimed. They now have 58 of 66 trails open, having added 4 glades stretchs after the snow.

Snow is a little heavy, should stick well and pack out nice.
