Waterville was friggin amazing today. No lift lines and groomed/packed everywhere. Couple of views of and from True Grit.
Ski/Snowboard 2016/2017-waterville_truegrit-jpgSki/Snowboard 2016/2017-waterville_truegrit_downjpg-jpg. $35 on Liftopia. Comparatively, Loon yesterday sucked... and at nearly three times the price.

Sunapee today was a demonstration of the kind of microclimate ski areas have. Top several hundred feet on Sunapee was in clouds, and then it started snowing at 3:15. We live 1.6 mi west of the summit, and ski was clear.

Snow was very good, barely anyone in lift lift lines.

This past Sunday, I brought my 8 year old to Pat's Peak. The weather couldn't have been better and the conditions were excellent. Due to it being a holiday weekend, it got a little busy around noon time but we never had to wait more than a minute or two to get on the lift. He was adamant about going down a double diamond mogul trail (with active snow making) until I had him stand at the top and look down! Next weekend I'll be taking him to Waterville Valley.

    Re: Ski/Snowboard 2016/2017

Today I took him to Waterville Valley. The upper part of the mountain, except for the peak, was foggy most of the day. The warm weather has hurt them pretty bad and the base is thin all over the mountain with dirt and rocks showing up in some areas. They are in need of some snow and cold weather. Despite that, the skiing was pretty good. The fog may have been a bit too much for my son but he pushed through it. He was completely exhausted by the time we left.

The view at the very top of the mountain was awesome this morning. The lift on the left side of the picture broke down a few minutes after we got off just before noon. The cable came off one of the towers.

That's awesome, love that area. I had to pass on my annual trip my Dad and I do because of the new offspring, but he just got back from a week at Wolf Creek.

Wildcat and Attitash tickets are $30 this Sunday and Cannon is 2 for $75. I may bring my oldest to Cannon for the day and still have time to get back for the Superb Owl.

I can add nothing meaningful to this thread other than I went skiing for the first time today.

Cut my teeth on Loon Mtn and eventually had a really good time. Morning was a bit rough trying to learn the basics but everything was clicking fairly well by the afternoon.

    Re: Ski/Snowboard 2016/2017

ive been out of town for work but...

TL;DR great first time out. snow was amazing. temps were too damn cold. learned lots for next time.

trip to CO went pretty well. first time out and mistakes were made but we learned for next time.
Denver was nice all weekend. 50s on monday.
tuesday we headed to Loveland. lots of stuff roped off for avalanche concerns. cold (9 at base) and a little windy (10-15mph iirc). definitely felt the effects of 10-13k feet. walked to a face i wanted to ski and nearly died...twice. worth it though. almost knee deep. we didnt really explore it as much as i hoped and the Cat wasnt open yet even though it was set to open the day before. No detachable lifts here. And no safety bars on the chairs. Normally this wouldnt really bother me but with a backpack on, it was a little uncomfortable. someone hit my rental (17 expedition XLT) in the parking lot and cracked the bumper...wait for it...and left a note with insurance info, name and phone #. ya...imagine that shit.

Breck the next day. colder (high of 0 in the village), and windier (20+mph in the village). i can deal with cold. i can remember skiing in -11 with no issues. but the wind...it goes right through you. most of the peak lifts were closed due to wind including the T bar. made our way across the mountain pretty well. elevation wasnt as much of an issue this time. around 2 they opened the imperial lift. it was white out conditions on top with the blowing snow. had to follow a rope that closed off an area down. i called it quits around 3. everything was cold. i managed to lock the keys in the truck on this day. that was pretty awesome

day 3 was set to be as cold if not colder and as windy if not windier. we were going to go to keystone but as a group decided not to. we hit downtown denver instead. scored a pretty good deal on a jacket though.

the snow was amazing!,(all of you that have been knew that already). carving big GS turns waiting for that inevitable ice spot and it never came. took me several runs to get used to that.
i mentioned that mistakes were made, ill elaborate.
-shouldve stayed in or near Frisco. west denver was nice but the drives home in the snow on the pass were white knuckle at times. i wouldve much rather either shuttled or drove 30min instead of 1:45 from Breck. i dont mind driving that far, i mean thats a drive to loon for me.
-bring a wax iron. the all temp wax on the rental skis is probably fine 90% of the time, but it sucks when its 0 out. you really need proper wax for those temps.
-shouldve stayed longer. i originally wanted to stay through the weekend but i was out voted. by thursday, we knew that was a mistake.

    observations:
-everyone gets dressed/ready in the parking lot. i didnt understand this. allegedly Breck doesnt really have a lodge, or at least not like we are used to. i didnt look into it. we got dressed at a bus station instead. loveland had one but no real bag storage and again, most got dressed at their cars. no thanks.
-no one drives like an asshole. it snowed at some level every day. usually just a steady flurry that kept the roads messy. everyone on the highway doing 45ish. no tailgating. no one flying by you half out of control. no passing you and then immediately getting right in front of you. everyone just peacefully drove along. if this is what legalizing weed does to people than boston driving is really gonna change.

Skied with my daughter Monday at Sunapee. Fantastic. Around 20 all day, 10-15mph wind at times, clear blue skies. 10 on skied straight to the lift gate, every other chair empty.
