Shot from the small storm yesterday morning. Currently have a foot of fresh we got overnight with it expected to continue into tomorrow.

Been riding this thing a lot lately and really love it. Who needs edges.

Conditions were the very best so far this year. Colorado nice. Sunny too. I expect tomorrow to be even better.

I was riding into work today and heard a commercial claiming Gunstock to be top 25 in the country.

I'm just here to clarify that *no* mountain east of the continental divide is in the top 25.

It's true. The place sucks. Nobody should ever ski there.

Still sharky in places, wind slabs on certain aspects but the riding has been awesome the last week

wait, where are the good mountains?

I remember riding at Okemo and having funnn

I finally ski'd yesterday at the closest spot to LA (I also surfed/disney/ski'd/dirt bike in the same day) and...
1.) *good* ski spots in California are far from LA - mammoth, taho, etc.
2.) *better* ski spots near LA are expensive! $120ish for a day ticket and rental at Bear Mountain!
3.) I ski'd a small/close mountain and it was $39-$52 on a slow day for a lift ticket and rental, but it was pretty small haha. the mountains are too steep to cover them all in long trail rides. I am also a little cautious of the joints

oh well...at least I got out there

quick sidebar question- looking to get my soon to be 4 yo on skis. Live in Wilmington, what options are there for local as in max 2 hr drive ski schools? i "heard" there were scenarios where they teach the kid for 3 hours ( allows me to ski) then me and my kid then have the rest of the day. She has never been on skis.

I'm looking to get a 3 day wknd up north to get her intro'd with ice skating, snow activites and ski etc

Mt Sunapee has a nice beginner area. It's isolated from the rest of the mountain and they do either half day or full day lessons. I could usually get there in an hour and a half from Somerville.

Not sure about their schools but I know my nephew learned how to ski at Bradford http://skibradford.com/ in Haverhill (anyone from Bradford will crucify me for saying that but Bradford is just a section of Haverhill)

Cool. 72 and sunny in Phoenix today. My desire for winter sports is at a solid zero even though I’m 2 hrs from the Snowbowl. My winter shit is going into storage!!

I have a ski map and I have done every New England mountain with 2000 ft vertical plus. I would cross them out. My last two to cross out were Saddleback and Burke. Left to go is Pico. Driven by many times. Looks interesting. Every time I buy mega millions tickets my daydreams turn to Saddleback. Damn I liked that place. I liked it so much I applied for and could have gotten a over 62 apartment in Rangeley. Luckily I didn't. They been closed since. Sad. . . . . How was Pico?

I learned to ride at Saddleback. By far my favorite mountain. Great old school trails and good people (mostly Mainers). The main lift needed an update and delaying that helped kill them.

The local move is to ski Pico after a late weekend to Wed storm because it's only open Thursday to Sunday. It was an amazing day. It was pretty snowy and I was hitting the upper trees so I don't even know what the trails are like up there. Trees were fantastic!

Pico is fantastic, no lines cheaper and still lots of terrain.

We have had quite the temp inversion the last few mornings with valley temps in the single digits and upper elevations in the 30s.

I definitely will. Girl bought me gift cards for a guide for a half day. That's the only thing I have going on.

Very first on the Ramrod lift at 8:30 AM. Skied first tracks down to Tiger lift which I was first on at 9:AM. The summit was on wind delay. At 2:30 via radio I heard that the summit was opening so I was first there. About a foot of powder average. A epic day at Gunstock.
