I didn't realize you could add/remove TPMS sensors without taking the tire off the rim. Interesting...

I would hope that you could, just like replacing a tube in a tube type tire

as long as you have a method of synchronizing the sensor to the monitor

I remember my first set of Hakks on they were 10ply 14" on a VW Vanagon some 25 years ago, It was my introduction to a true snow & ice tire

they didn't last long, I had about 6 or 7 thousand miles by the end of the season and it was obvious they wouldn't last long into the next season, so I just kept em on but only took 2 or 3 weeks to toast em. The newer versions last longer though

Those and Michelin ICE X are the only ones that go on our cars. Won’t change them to anything else for a regular sedan car.

    Re: Snow tires....

I have the Altimax Arctic on the car now. Great in snow but I hate the noise on pavement and they killed my fuel mileage. I'd rather have the XIce or Yokohama Iceguard when they have rebates.

Yeah, the Nokians are freaking unbeliveable in snow, but they're overkill and pricey for what I need right now.

Haven’t had the need yet. What I use hasn’t left me down or stuck anywhere yet (knock on wood)

I really do like the price point of these General Altimax Artic tires and have been using for the last 2 cars and 7 years but going to give the Coopers in the pic a try next winter.

    Re: Snow tires....

Much happier with the noise from the Generals with lower pressure. MPG still sucks though. Still no complaints with their traction, definitely a solid snow tire.

Is there any good snow tire that doesn’t kill mpg?

Bridgestone Blizzaks on my Highlander, no MPG loss from the tire, just the switch to winter blend gas. (I run my Blizzaks in the summer once past 50% wear as they loose most of their winter magic at that point so I can do a straight up MPG comparison in normal conditions running summer gas.)

I had Yokohama Iceguard tires on a Mazda 3 And didn't see any significant difference in mileage.

They weren't as grippy as Hakkas but they were just fine for typical southern New England roads in winter.

Saw a van at Sunapee with Sailun Ice Blazers on it. Never heard of them but may be a good budget choice. $100 each or less.

X-Ice are pretty much identical in noise with Altimax

Ya but they're pretty cost effective. Had them on my 01 Corolla and they made the thing unstoppable in 3 winters. For 42 a tire I was living the dream.
And let's be honest, it's a winter tire... How much performance do you need from it?
