Yep, and around here if the weathers bad enough they donít want you out on the road anyway by the next day itís all cleared up and mostly slush.

I am considering 235/75R15 Mickey thompson deegan 38 all terrain tires. But I can’t find any rating for how they are in snow.

I’m assuming they still should be significantly better than 31”x10.5 mud tires in the snow... but don’t know if they will be good enough in snow to pull the trigger?

Turns out I canít get that size for four weeks and donít want to wait that long. I can get it in a 30Ē size... which is just a little better than the 31Ē tires I have, and is the stock size for the Sport trim, with better tread than the midgets... but I always heard the thinner the tire the better for winter, and these are 9.5Ē wide.

Skinnier and larger OD is better for the most part.

Skinnier tire allows weight to be more focused and increases force to push tire down past the snow to the road.

Larger OD allows for more time for the pressure to work. Although at a certain point a larger OD will lead to an increased surface contact area which will decrease the pressure too much as well.

I have a set of sport edition aluminum rims in good shape with 205/55/16 snow tires mounted on them with lots of tread left (8/32). They should work fine on a mazda 3. PM me if you are interested, i can send some pictures tonight.

    Re: Snow tires....

Luckily for me this year..... My all season are on the verg eof wear bars. Should time nicely to mount some michelin X-ices n the A4 to my stock 17" rims

Then I'll be on the lookout for some new 18 or 19" rims for my "Summer" tires. If anyone has some for an a4 5 x 112 offset around 40 not too garish, which is all I can find on CL / FB

Ping me in the spring. I have an A4 wagon that has 18" VW Austin wheels (with Chinese made Audi center caps) mounted in the summer and the factory 16's with snows. There is a decent chance we'll be trading it in after the winter, in which case I would definitely sell off the 18's.

I bought them from typeone 4 - OEM VW 18" Austin wheels + Pirelli tires

    Re: Snow tires....

IF you guys are looking for tires, discount tire is offering a decent promotion through at least their ebay ads of $100 off tires over $400. And their base pricing is pretty good to start. I just got Hankook ATMs for the Tundra for $550.

I’ve done narrower track and do not recommend it. You lose too much dry and wet road handling while modern winter tires will give you plenty of grip.

Punched out a number of sidewalls in the standard 45 WRX aspect ratio so a -1 on rim size will give you more sidewall and more protection.
