    Re: Snowblower

My bearings came in Saturday morning which gave me enough time to button everything up before the snow came. Everything is running great and with the transmission bypassed, it free wheels more easily than before with its brand new bearings. I now know way more than I ever cared to about the inner workings of a hydrostatic Ariens!

    Re: Snowblower

I put the new flapper mod to work on the old snowblower this weekend. Worked great, really moved the snow and much further as well. Only issue now is that it taxes the old engine, had to drop a gear and go a hair slower.

Does it have pair of rotary piston pumps?

In fact it does. #18 is the 3cc pump and #24 is the 10cc motor so the input to output ratio is 3⅓:1 (manual says 3.4:1). Item #4 is the bladder that cracked in my transmission causing oil to leak. It's still available and is less than $11.

    Re: Snowblower

I'm now it the snowblower game! I was gifted a 9HP tecumesh crafstman. I will just use it for cleaning up around the trailer, van, etc. after plowing. It sat for a few years and only runs on full choke and then stalls often. After reading this I just ordered a new carb for 11 bucks. Who knew?! You guys did. Thanks.

If it’s an older Craftsman, it was made by Murray, in Canada, sold as Simplicity since B&S acquired them. They were very solid machines.

    Re: Snowblower

a little tired of my 30" ariens SHO lifting when blowing.
I found a weight bar from a John Deere for 10$ from my local small engine shop

problem is its too heavy( probably about 35# I could cut the ends off and bring it down to 28 or 30# but I'd ideally like to rip this bar length wise and get it closer to 20#

Any idea how to do this or do I need to source a machine shop for this?

You can buy metal blades for your circ saw or table saw no problem @ your local home-center. I've used the cheap fiber cut-off kind with success.

Sounds like a lot of effort to remove a few pounds.

If you want cheap weight, go to Play It Again Sports on 28 in North Reading and just buy the used weights of your choice for a gym and call it a day. Two ten pound plates spread out would be good or one twenty five. Drill holes and bolt that shit down or tack weld them if you have the ability.

FWIW the Ariens bar is 10 lbs and can be doubled up.
