Track drive machines are easier. I've already switched.....

Hondas are quite a bit lighter than Ariens, which is good and bad.

I have an 824 and the 28 SHO. And there is a very big difference in man handling the two.

I ingested large chunks of the end of my driveway that the city plow tore up. Still haven't broken a shear pin.

What's the difference between a bolt and a screw?
First you screw, then you bolt.

My wife injested a welcome mat a few years back did the whole lot with it, I injested almost the chains from the trailer hitch the other day, that would have been bad, so bad
Daughter has started decorating our driveway with the lawn animal ornaments, those are fun to "find" with the blower

I do need to get some chains ( do they make cables?) on the Ariens though. with the slope of the driveway it is a bit of a chore, the front end weight I added 4 weeks helps alot in keep the bucket down.

    Re: Snowblower

My "oh shit" ingestion was bailing twine. My dogs found it and left it in the yard before it snowed. I was snow blowing and started wondering why the snow was moving 40 feet in front of me. By the time I realized what was happening, I had already wound 20 feet of it around the auger. What a pain in the ass cutting that out.

My parents had a Gilson that they bought new in the late 70's. My father kept it until 2000 when he gave it to my grandfather. He ran it for another 10 years before the engine finally gave out. He wasn't interested in repowering it so he bought an Ariens.

    Re: Snowblower

My father bought this 1970 Ariens new in 1970. Before that we had a SnowBird, with chain drive and a rotating chute housing.

It had a 5hp Tecumseh Snow King which still ran, but I upgraded it with a Briggs & Stratton snow engine in 2005. My brother is still using it and often winds up doing three drives in his neighborhood.

It was restored from the nut and bolt level.

I think he tore it down and restored it. Are maintenance parts still available for it?

Ariens is terrific about forward-and-back parts compatibility. For example the original bushing holders at the ends of the auger were originally aluminum castings. They are now steel stampings, but same diameter and bolt circle.

You can spend $15 per can at the dealer for Ariens Orange paint, or but Chevrolet engine Orange at any auto parts store. Same color.

Still can’t find an accurate match for the Honda red.

get your machine scanned with a spectrometer, most auto paint stores have one, they will mix an exact match,

that is how I touched up the tank on my SV650, blended right in, couldn't tell I didn't paint the whole tank

    Re: Snowblower

I keep seeing it called Milano Red with a paint code of R81PAH (or R81).

Quick update on my cheapo Ariens 824...the driveline has been given considerable attention. There was so much slop in the bearings that the gear drive kept skipping and it got to the point of exceedingly annoying so I ordered all new bearings, a friction wheel, a pair of belts and pair of idlers and have been undoing 30 years of shit. Gonna be great to have that sorted out and then move on to addressing the auger/ gearbox, etc at the end of the season.

That costs more than the $15 from a dealer.

I’m looking for the $6-8 version, like Ariens or Kubota with the Chevy paint. Not looking very hard, though....

?? when I bought my SV paint, I just took one of the red body parts off, drove down to my local NAPA, they scanned it, and mixed me a 12oz rattle can, I don't remember how much it cost, but not much more than a can of Rust-oleum

Purchased several in the last few months from Gem Auto Parts and Quik Auto Body Supply. They
    cost $25-35 each.

The R90/6 is painted in a GM color called “Pull Me Over Red.”
