South Carolina trip - Early April

Iím heading to the Charleston SC area in early April for a week. Anyone know of some good side trips (within a couple hundred miles)? And unfortunately it wonít be on a bike.

The ship at Patriots Point is the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown. It is the ship my dad was stationed on in the Korean war. We went last October for the 71st anniversary, It's a real good take. The Yorktown was the carrier that picked up the Apollo Module in 1968 from the first manned flight around the moon. There is also a Destroyer and a Submarine docked there too. They also have an interactive Viet Nam display as well. You can easily spend a day there. Downtown Charleston has a lot to do as well.

If you want out of Charleston, head to Beaufort. They have an awesome waterfront with a boardwalk and some great restaurants, get some shrimp and grits. Duke's BBQ is awesome, most people haven't had the SC style gold sauce with pulled pork...it's amazing. Hunting Island is past Beaufort, it's a state park. Nice beach, not very crowded, has a nice hiking trail around the island.

Patriots point and lots of bbq are my pick. You could also run to myrtle beach if you wanted too. Plenty of golf courses in the area if that's your thing too.

Agree with Beaufort, and also check out Savannah, GA. Both very cool towns. More local to CHS, hit up Red's Ice House on Shem Creek in Mount Pleasant on a Thursday or Friday late afternoon/night for a great time and sights. Lastly grab a burger at Poe's on Sullivan's Island. Pure deliciousness. Have fun.

We did a tour of the city with carnage pulled by donkey. It was nice and very informative.

You can take a trip over to Fort Sumter, definitely cool.

    Also, this place was great!

Also, Hilton Head I believe is close enough for a day trip. One of my favorite beach communities. Although, my wife and I were in Charleston for 3 or 4 days and found plenty to do without leaving the city.

I'm forwarding this to the wife. As she had asked if we wanted to do the Austin GP I'm sure she'll be all in.

well this is local club racing, so it's going to be a lot different from motoGP.

FYI CMP is not the most spectator friendly race track.
Meaning there are no stands , there are a few mounds to stand on. I do believe there was a concession stand open.
And the town has little of anything to offer! Its not Austin or even close...… your best Bet is 25-30 mins south in Camden
