It was a little weird...multiple times throughout the day I saw it and thought to myself "wait, Paul and Kerry are here?"

Also weird seeing it lined up with the crew in front of the big white tent once the day was done, yet no Paul and Kerry sitting at the dinner table.

My bike did hit the pavement for the first time in 4 years of owning her...as she rolled backwards off the hitch carrier as I walked away to get the straps. I swear I was able to let her go when I loaded her the night before! Just glad it didn't hit a customer's car!

DOH! I dropped my 675 off the trailer one day at a surf spot on my way to a trackday. I guess it's a tradition. Glad you got it done early! Any damage?

Nope, none. I actually had new (used) body work that was only primered up on it anyway. It figures it was the day after I removed the frame sliders, but all was well.

Wow, how does that happen?! My incident smoked my steering damper and dinged my tank.

I half caught it as it rolled away and just couldn't quite hold it up. It was pretty gentle, but my lack of any remaining upper body fitness is feeling it from the effort. 5 years ago I would have been able to hold it up.

So as it is I'm driving a Grand Caravan for the next two weeks.. and it happens to have what I think is the same 3.6L V6. And wholey cow, "a dog" is an understatement! I hope you get a better trans than the 6 speed in this thing. I am not a fan.
Book says this Caravan is rated to tow 3600 lbs. My wife even remarked that she isn't sure how.

That is the one! I think it is even the same tranny. It has a tow/haul mode that improves the shift points. I will be towing for the first time this weekend. In the end, it's a long, tall, heavy van. It doesn't need to be quick, just reliable. Strangely, the van leaps off the line only to lose all motivation once under way. Hahaa.

The Sprinter was exceptional in this dept. so it's an adjustment for sure.

    Re: Sprinter build thread

In the caravan I blame the transmission most. Stupid conservative shift points. Mat it and it drops to what feels like first and finally finds some motivation. My wife is not much for wfo throttle use and is not compatible with it. And it does a bad job holding speed on cruise control. No tow haul button that I’ve seen. Utah superslab has 80 mph limits and the van does it. But not much more. Which is fine. At 70 on the secondaries it seems to return almost 30 mpg. So there’s that. I think we like the Honda better in all respects. Shame the Japanese don’t make a high roof van for the us.

I'm surprised it doesn't have the 8 speed like most other Chrysler offerings now. That transmission is wonderful in my Jeep.

I wish it had the 8 speed. These vans get updates much later. They are essentially fleet vehicles

    Re: Sprinter build thread

The one modification we're looking to make is a way to add a third sleeping arrangement/a separate bed. I think the best plan at this time is a modular bed that will rest on the counter, will fit a single mattress, with fold down support legs or hanging supports for the part not resting on the counter. It would have a little overhang on the full size bed, but it is elevated enough about it that it shouldn't matter too much.

I'm not one to be bothered sharing a bed with another dude, but the ability to sleep separately or sleep a third person would be a nice addition. I do a ton of travel for bicycle races and usually don't do it alone.

Another option: “of course you can ride with me! See that spot over there? That’s where you can store your tent while we’re in transit.”

That, and Paul's original suggestion of a sleeping pad UNDER the full size bed. They'd be so sweaty with the heat pumping, that thing kicks.

Re: Sprinter build thread-(Pictures are back!)

I'll chime in with some photos. Loaded up the gear for the first time. Easily handles all of our gear without losing access to the house. If I spent some time at the puzzle i could even get the bed down.

I was wondering why Carla would need her own separate "bed" after reading the first sentence!

Ha, her sleeping spot will forever be exactly where I want to sleep. We still fight every single night for the same spot on the bed.

My only way to win is to crank the heat so she gets too hot and sleeps on the wood floor.
