I would just get an Aux battery setup. Not only will it benefit you in the long run, it will be easier to wire things up and you won't be cutting into any of the factory wiring.

You could get an SPDT relay and wire it like this behind your radio which should turn on the camera display with a toggle switch without needing a diode anywhere assuming your radio takes a +12V signal to activate the camera from your reverse lights.

Getting my task list a lot shorter. Mechanically, need to get the heater booster fixed and replace the front shocks.

Got all the wall panels fitted. They will come out once or twice more for final finishing, additional insulation etc but the bulk of the work is done. They are fastened with rubber well nuts and 1/4-20 stainless screws.

The panels are 4mm Okoume Plywood, coated on both sides with penetrating Epoxy. I sanded some to 320, and left the rest glossy to see which I liked better. Probably going with the glossy finish. Craftsmanship is not great, give myself a C. The goal was durable/functional, not fancy.

    Next is the ceiling.

Cut the ceiling piece to size today. Have a bunch of Nutserts to install but that's almost my next-to-last interior project.

Have some extra Thinsulate so I cut pieces to cover the side window and rear windows. Cut them oversized. Then I'll trim back the insulation and mount magnets on the scrim.

Downloaded all the fuel consumption data to an Excel spreadsheet.

Over 7,677 miles we've averaged 23.8 mpg. This includes some city driving and towing. The minimum (towing a 5,000+ lb trailer) was 18.2. Max was a long highway trip at 70mph - 26.0mpg. This is much better than our Econoline 250, Express 2500 or Transit 250 EcoBoost.

Average price paid for diesel was $2.89. Lowest was $2.60 and highest $3.14. Average fuel cost per mile was $0.126.

So about $0.02/mile more than I averaged in my Silverado. (Reg unleaded, $0.108/mile average over 51679 miles logged.)

The motor in that van was so far ahead of it's time. It is definitely a keeper. Towing barely changes mileage OR performance. Neither does driving it really hard. In fact, the harder you drive it, the better the mileage seems to get (around town anyway).

The "around town" part of your statement is important. Once you start going over 60 mph its aerodynamics fight you hard for efficiency. @ $4.00+ for diesel I don't even measure mileage anymore. Just drive, fill the tank for $100 or as much as the pump limits the credit card swipe, then keep on driving. Its too easy to cruise at 80+. With the limiter gone, I've caught myself doing 90 and not even noticed. When it isn't bumper to bumper the traffic moves real fast. However, sometimes doing 50 feels like 180mph. All depends on the winds.

LOL, wow, I'm surprised the van can do those speeds. I never felt that safe over 75. But I drive like a grandpa on the highway.

Apples to oranges as you don’t live in the city.

Our mpg on the Tahoe (which AFAIK is the same Silverado drivetrain) blows.

Average speed based on engine hours is 27.7mph. Trip computer says average mpg for the last 400 miles is 14.8: and the trip computer is 10-16% optimistic. So actual mpg is around 13.3. At a current average gas price of $2.565 that is 19.4 cents per mile.

Got the GDE tune in part to remove the governed speed. But really only for passing. Normally cruise at 68-70.

There is a resonance at around 72-75 indicated. Do you others get that? It quiets down again at 75 indicated, 73 or so actual.

Just wind noise at highway speeds here.

Speed dependent resonant noises are almost always tire balance.

Well, dodged a bullet. The Espar booster heater wasn’t running and thought it might have the fan stuck, a common problem. But the shop found some corroded wiring. Fixed it and the fan fired up! New front shocks tomorrow and all good.

We still live vicariously through your stickers, but have started a pin collection inside.

Got Epoxy on one side of the ceiling panel. Planning to add two rows of L track so we can suspend stuff. Left the fan for next Spring.

Van is back at garage for the booster heater. The fixed som bad wiring but it didn’t fire.
