    Squirrels in engine bay

Today was the 4th time I've pulled a squirrel nest out of the passenger side compartment of my Silverado's engine bay. There is a decently large empty spot above the wheel well, where the hood hinge is. The first time I found a nest I hadn't driven my truck for a few weeks so I can kinda understand. Second, third and fourth time I had been driving it to work or around town, running it at least twice in a 24 hour period. The squirrels aren't doing any damage but they are definitely a problem as they're stuffing sticks, twigs and other crap in there for insulation. A few weeks ago I ordered some concentrated capsaisin spray that's supposed to repel rodents. Obviously that didn't work so back to the drawing board. Any suggestions? I have a huge tree next to my driveway which is where they've take up residency. Only other thing I can think of is to park my truck in the street, a little further from my driveway but that's (albeit minor) an inconvenience and we have a huge driveway. I have a beater car and they don't touch that car or my wifes car, so it's just my truck. Anything you guys can suggest? I'd prefer if they were dead and gone but repelling or stopping the problem would be a happy medium.

Never had a squirrel problem ,just mice. Pain in the ass creeders. Son had snakes in his engine bay after a few idle weeks. Try moth balls worked on the mice. Or shoot the mother f__kers out of the trees.

I'd love to shoot the tree rats but we don't have enough space to get away with that. I'm thinking about just trapping them and letting them go a few miles away.

try moth balls or dryer sheets. They also like to dine on d-con.

They may not be hurting anything now, but they will eventually.

Gonna try D-con and some traps I think. There is a small neighborhood of them between the two trees in my yard.

Man. This must be driving you nuts. I'd be out of my tree over this. Can't wait to see where this tail ends.

You're really out on a limb here, and I think you should leaf it to the experts. Stop trying to branch out where you're not wanted, and try sticking to your roots for a change...

Just chain a mink or ferret down in there, and toss in a rat to keep it fed now and then.

Buy some 1/4" hardware cloth and use it to make a custom-shaped "box" that fills the empty space enough to discourage them. Hold it in place with zip ties. I have used 1/4" hardware cloth to rodent-proof the heater boxes and air filter housings of many cars, It's cheap, easy to work with, and super effective.
