    New Tacoma

My parents are going to be selling their 2011 regular cab tacoma (picture below) and buying an access cab tacoma...they want to keep a 6' bed...as i understand as of 2016 the tacoma was redesigned so they don't have the small body style anymore...in looking at the gas mileage on the toyota website the 4 cyl and the 6 cyl are pretty similar whether 4x2 or 4x4...they don't seem to want the 4x4 just cause they don't drive anywhere too far with it and their current tacoma has been fine and it's a 4x2...i have a feeling they are going to opt for the SR5 6cyl 4x2 or the SR5 4cyl 4x2 mostly due to having a remote key and possibly alloy wheels...they don't really care about the extra technology...anything else to be aware of or any advice choosing between those 2 choices?...thanks

    SR 4 cyl 4x2 19/23 mpg auto $24,120
    SR 6 cyl 4x4 19/22 mpg auto $27,195
    SR5 4 cyl 4x2 19/23 mpg auto $26,205
    SR5 6 cyl 4x2 19/24 mpg auto $28,700
    SR5 6 cyl 4x4 18/23 mpg auto $31,875

    Re: New Tacoma

Resale on the 4x4 will be far better, and the V6 gas mileage is so close to the 4cyl that it is the way to go. Of course this brings the price up.

I was checking out the Tacomas in Dartmouth the other day. That composite bed is a win.

The bed is made of composite, not metal. Never rusts, never dents. Is stronger than steel. Similar to the new Ridgeline.

    Re: New Tacoma

part of my derision of Tacoma vs Tundra was the fuel type. they basically get similar GPM but the V6 Tacoma runs on premium and the tundra runs on regular. so a little cheaper to put fuel into the Tundra that the Tacoma.

I don't believe this to be true. When I was selling Toyota's none required Premium fuel. In checking with new Tacoma's now the v-6 takes regular fuel

    Powertrain

Fuel economy city: 18mpg Horsepower: 278hp @ 6,000RPM Fuel economy highway: 23mpg Transmission: 6 speed automatic Variable valve control Engine liters: 3.5 Fuel tank capacity: 21.1gal. Fuel economy combined: 20mpg Cylinder configuration: V-6 Engine location: front Recommended fuel: Regular Unleaded Torque: 265 lb.-ft. @ 4,600RPM Drive type: four-wheel Number of valves: 24 Limited slip differential

That whole fuel type thing is something I'm glad I took into account every time I fill up, and notice that if I got "the other one" I'd be paying 50 cents a gallon more...

I would imagine the whole line.

How a "spray in bedliner" is a $$$$$$ upgrade on domestics is still mind boggling to me. What is this, 2001?

Internets say..."With the exception of the x runner, all toyota tacoma engines are designed to run on 87 octane. However it doesn't hurt to use the high test gas every once in a while."

Internets also point to the ecu auto adjusting for best use of whatever octane you put in the tank.

My 2014 has never had anything but 87. No issues to date.

4x4 Double Cab, V6, Long Bed, SE and I get almost 20 MPG. Taco (Toyota Tacoma) | Fuelly

All have a composite bed. It's very slippy. Anything you put in it expect it to slide around or strap it down.
