    lets talk dash cams

I'm looking for a dash cam setup.

Must have GPS as I want a record of speed/distance/route etc.

I'd like to have 2 cameras (one from and 1 rear) but I could be happy with a taxi cam setup that shows front view and has a second camera for inside the car view.

Anyone have any experience with them? Advice?
    Budget is $300 or so.

Bought this a few months ago. I've had great luck with it thus far. Has some great built in features.

Has any seen any that can be mounted somewhere non-descript (like the grill area)? I know you might lose some view, but I don't want something all over my windshield.

You absolutely don't even know it's there after a day

I drive a jeep wrangler. In Texas. The roof is off 9 months of the year. It won't be there after a day.

That looks good but I want to bury the power supply in the headliner, where there is limited room.

Why would you bury a power supply in a location that it will have next to no cooling air flow and be difficult to get to if something happens to it? Couldn't you extend the power wiring so you could locate the power supply in a more easily accessed location?

Lots of folks tap power from the headliner area, usually you have lights and other things that have a power supply to them. Common to do w/ radar installs.

I can understand grabbing power from something existing in the headliner but his comment was about burying a power supply up there.

The power supply is no more than a cord that goes to the cam. The actual power supply is in the cam itself.

    Re: lets talk dash cams

Ahhh the beauty of communicating through the written word.

Power source would be what I would call tapping two wires to a +12V and a Ground wire that exists in the headliner area of the vehicle (hopefully not overloading the existing circuit in the process).

To me a Power Supply would be a physical device that is used to condition the voltage or current provided to the installed unit but receives its operating voltage from the power source.

Having been told that the power supply of the dash cam being discussed is internal to the unit I would think that there wouldn't be a need to bury a power supply in the headliner area.

Sorry to have slightly thread jacked this thread.

Good to know about internal power supply. I'm going to tap into the power feed for my auto dim/compass rear view mirror so I'm not running the wire all the way round the windshield. This sounds perfect, just ordered one. $59 delivered. GPS model is $10 more.

Give us a review when you try it out. I'm still a bit hesitant on this model.
