Your insurance can increase after accidents even if you aren't at fault.

As a matter a fact insurance can drop you even if you are in non fault accidents more often than they like and they consider you to be too high risk.

My phone has a terabyte, I just want something that if the cam or phone gets confiscated (obviously destroyed) I can access the video.

Do you have a hotspot or connected car? Something that can provide continues Internet to the camera so it can upload wherever you want?

Yes, but you're talking huge data and/or storage money to backup to a cloud continuously. That was my original idea as well. I discovered my video files were 80-116GB a day and that made the whole thing pointless cloud based storage. Some cameras you might be able to set up to just upload event files though. I wanted to store everything for a longer period of time so went with a large external hard drive.

Huh. For my application I would just need the last hour stored.

That could easily be a GB+ for an hour. You want to upload that much data all the time?

So the cloud storage is out, maybe a hidden camera with audio would work. I haven't been pulled over in a car in 15+ so not too worried about the cops I just think it's something good to have the way the world is going.

The cards in these cams are pretty high data rate. They have to withstand temperature extremes and rewriting of data. We have a 20GB card and it is holding 2 hours and 18 minutes of video.

Had my daughter pull the plug as the last time she got in an accident, she drove home and it went into parking mode and after a couple of hours it overwrote the accident.

Storing video in the cloud that's high-enough quality to make out a license plate is going to ruin your data plan, as well as cost you too much money for the storage itself. I don't think it's worth it, unfortunately...

Might want to check on that. My gf was rear ended and not at fault. Both the insurance company and her lawyer said he premium will not increase because it's not a surcharge-able event on her part. This is in MA.

USAA put in weasel words to the effect they could increase rates even though not at fault.

No worries. I don't know much about dash cams, but I used to design data storage platforms for a living. Keeping lots of 720p footage is going to really cost if you want more than a few hours' worth of footage.

I don't need to check it out. It's a fact.

A person with 10 at fault incidents a year is more of a liability to the insurance than a person with 0.

This is why actuaries are 6 figure positions

Some companies are more forgiving to it or might even have a specific clause promising not to increase, but overall it's pretty uniform across the board that most will.

That's what I was saying; person who has 0 at fault accidents have less liability. Confused to your statement of "fact"

Oh, just realized you said "at fault". Yeah, that's a given. As for no-fault accidents, that has no effect in MA

Just got a call from USAA. The impact bent so many panels they are totaling the car. Daughter unhurt, yay Subaru.

What do they use to value your vehicle? Nadaguides is much lower than KBB and that’s what they offered.

It’s a 2014 Outback 3.6R with the Special Appearance Package, which included literally every single option available and some special trim not on any other model.

Find comps for sale on Autotrader etc... and demand that. You should be able to negotiate higher then what they are offering now. How many miles on the car now?
