lets talk Juicers / juicing machine

I am in the market for one. so many options.
For me the benefit is that it will help me increase my vegetable consumption and consume stuff that I am having hard time eating often (such as carrots).

what do you guys use? I see that the decent ones are north of the $150.

I really dont know which one to go for. looking to see what you guys use and like.

Girlfriend has the Breville...pretty sure that is like the standard juicer everyone has because it just plain old fashioned works.

That being said, any juicing you do should be in bulk, cause the thing is a pain in the ass to clean and is not something I would want to do daily.

Just my opinion: I'd go blender over juicer just cause I don't like wasting food.

There are 2 main types, centrifugal and masticating. Masticating juicers "chew" food and tend to get moee juice oit of leafy vegetables like kale and grasses. Centrofugal juicers are faster. I have a centrifugal Breville. Very happy with it but i would like to add a masticating machine to the arsenal.

I'm pretty sure we have the jack lalane one. I remember it being about $100.
It is a pain to clean, but if you're juicing, it's the only dishes you're doing. The rest is compost.

    also interested!

but cleaning will be my downfall...so I googled "what's the easiest juicer to clean"

What's the Best Juicer that's Easy to Clean? - Juicing Hacks

it says: masticating is easier to clean

this video says centrifugal is easier to clean:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgzxuJ-BCqU

Pricing is ~$150++ for either...masticating should theoretically last longer since the juice isn't being oxidized by as much air during preparation. breville juicers are "supposed" to be easier to clean

    seems like a toss up...

I remember when my ex bought one...we never even took it out of the box, and couldn't even sell it on ebay for 30% lower than the retail price. So I posted on the socal moto forum to see if someone will trade a 6-pack of beer for one

But otoh - Omega J8006 has great reviews: Amazon.com: Omega J8006 Nutrition Center Juicer - Black and Chrome: Electric Masticating Juicers: Kitchen & Dining

yeah I dunno...seems like a lot of money...checked slickdeals too and a "deal" on a good masticating one is still $250ish

I might swing at that. I don't mind spending the extra $100 for something that works and cleans up easily.

I have the nutribullet found at Walmart < $100
seems to liquefy everything in less than a minute.
    Cleans up in 30 sec.
Drinking ALL the vegies and fiber makes more sense to me than separating then and throwing it out

We humans have ZERO ability to digest cellulose so anything trapped inside a cellulose cell will pass untouched

Think of corn kernels in the toilet

So I like to believe that really violent blending smashes the cells so you get whats inside ( maybe BS)

My wife bought a Angel. holy shit! I think she told me but I must have forced myself to forget what it cost. The thing feels industrial though.

Low speed, apparently high speed will heat the nutrients killing them, twin auger. It grinds then presses to separate the vegetable juice from pulp. The pulp comes out the other end very fine and completely dry.

Clean up is a pain. the two augers come off, there a cover that they go into which is two cone shape screens. I guess that's not that bad, I just hate doing it.

Re: lets talk Juicers / juicing machine

    hmmm...nutri-bullet easiest to clean!

    but it's really more of a blender...not a juicer

    Juicing vs Blending

blending = mix it all together; keep the pulp = more fiber = slower/longer digestion, potentially good for diabetics and other people that don't tolerate a high glucose spike (?)

juicing = no fiber; pretty much water + nutrients = almost "pre digested" and absorbs quickly (?)

still seems like a toss up...

@ tsorfas - did your personal training include any nutrition?

from a "professional" standpoint, we never talked about juicing vs. blending vs. whatever fad diet in school. The general concensus was to eat a variety, eat nutrient rich food, watch your salt, make 50% of your plate veggies blah blah...I also didn't need to do much more diet recommendations outside of people with high cholesterol, diabetics, and for coumadin dosing. So when I started talking to personal trainers and reading about nutrition online, it seems like everyone has their own explanation of how things work. As long as it made logical sense, people told everyone else about it...not based on clinical trials and data.

No I dont have any degree a certificate in nutrition. I am studying now for a little over a month.
Truth is there is no one solution fits all. Everyone has different metabolic rates, body types and goals.

I have replaced my salt with Hymalaian pink salt and even that is fairly limited. I eat a lot of vegetables but I'm def getting sick of some because I eat them so often. I try to eat 100% organic but I think 70% is more realistic.

Based on my research and observations it is better to eat fully organic rather than processed but theoritically healthy.

During bulking i drink regular milk. During shredding I drink almond/coconut milk. They both help with protein being absorbed better and calcium is great for people with broken bones and joint issues.

I eat strawberries, blueberries, bananas for fruit. 0 juices at all (very high in sugars).

Correct. I actually consume sugar immediately after a workout.

Himalayan pink salt? Is that healthier than NaCl? Or just more festive?

Not sure how legit it is that it's so much healthier but for the price difference I don't mind it.
Sea salt is easier to be chemical bs or from polluted waters over the mountain salt. Price is almost the same so I don't mind get the "rare" stuff. Can't really say I have noticed the difference because I went from regular salt to no salt at all to Hymalaian salt.

It's not any healthier, the lower purity of the NaCl means it's not as 'strong' a salt flavor as table salt, and you can sometimes get additional flavor hinting from some of the other minerals but it's subtle.

By "good for you", do you mean contains nutrients, or is good for weight control? I see the phrase used to describe either.

Both actually depending on the usage.
During bulking I use it as preworkout or breakfast.
During shredding you use it as a sweetener on to kill cravings when you want something sweet. Usually one teaspoon full will do the trick.

Only real difference is the percentages of glucose and fructose compared to table sugar. So it is slightly harder for your body to breakdown and absorb. But in the end, it's still sugar.

Anything else is holistic garbage lacking any scientific merit.
