At the bottom of the descriptions for all their magnetic tank bags they've got this:

"ATTENTION: Do not insert any credit card or bank card in the bag, since these could be demagnetised."

LOL... actually, they prolly wouldn't have to put that dumb disclaimer if the shitbags of the world would stop their frivilous lawsuits.

Mythbusters is dumb then. Magnets can certainly screw up the magnetic stripe on your cards, especially the powerful magnets used in most tank bags.

Most credit cards use high-coercivity stripes which are somewhat more resistant to magnets than low-coercivity stripes. However, disposable cards like gas cards, gift cards, etc often use the low-coercivity stripe. You can tell the difference by color; the low-coercivity stripes are brown while the high-coercivity stripes are black.

Oscillating fields, like from the transmitter in your phone, are far more likely to demagnetize a card than a stationary field from a permanent magnet.

I only knew that because I designed degaussing systems at a past job.
