Best 14.5 years a dog owner could ask for.

Don't know why I felt like I needed to post about it, but I just feel like I owe it to her.

Enjoy them rawhide bones in the sky.

Thank you for staying up late in the garage with me workin on bikes, thanks for taking any little bits that fall to the floor and hiding them in your mouth for hours with a shit eatin grin while I look everywhere for them, thanks for eating coins, nails and whatever you can find that you shouldn't eat, thanks for being able to catch a piece of popcorn in midair with half a seconds notice, thanks for always sitting next to me whenever I sit down, thanks for never biting or being mean to anyone, ever.

Only pic I have of her right now, kinda crappy, but all I have.

    RIP bookie.

She was always taking small parts that were important. She'd meander off to a corner or the garage and drool like it was her job. She'd keep looking at me and looking away like she was ashamed. Sure enough, every time, there was what I was looking for with a fresh coat of drool on it. She'd give it right up without a fight but I think she thought it was a game. She was REAL sneaky about grabbing stuff too.

She was hit pretty hard for the last two years with arthritis in her hips. She got around fine, just a little slower. Lately she was having a hard time breathing, equivalent of emphasema in dogs, or so the vet said. She has always been healthy until older and the vets did all they could to keep her going strong. Happy as any other lab until her final days.

When my mom broke her back/shoulder/ribs etc in her bike accident, Spunky kept her company for the two months she had to stay mostly immobile. Anyone you would sit on the floor, she assumed that you were there for her to lean against. Quite often she'd try to be a cat and plop all 90lbs right on your legs. While sleeping before her arthritis, you'd hear her come up the stairs and into the bedroom. Then you get a cold nose on your cheek, sometimes a snort with a mist onto your face, then it's like her legs were never there and she'd hit the floor next to the bed with all the speed her body slam could muster. Then the moans and lip smacking would start and go long into the night. The first time my woman slept over she didn't sleep a wink. I knew the trick, just reach down, give her a quick pet and pat on the back, then she'll sleep quiet for the rest of the night (Spunky, not the woman, he he).

She was afraid of the dark, could get out of any collar (no neck), would welcome any robber into our house with a wagging tail, could pick the lettuce out of cole slaw somehow and enjoyed smelling the dogs at the pound on the saturday morning trip to the dump (dump/pound same place in our town).

She was quite the dog. This was only my second ever, but I'd like to hope I have another one half as good as her one day.

As sad as I am, it was her time and for the last 3 or so months it killed me to see her like she was.

Thanks for the condolences, if Spunky were here to see it, she'd give approval by putting your hand in her mouth and just kinda slobbering on it since she never ever licked.

aw man, sorry to hear that, bro but definitely happy to hear you had such a great time w/ her while she was w/ us.

Hopfully I can be as fortunate as you one day and even though there's no replacing her, here's to hoping the next one brings you just as much joy as she did.

    My condolences.

I have a Malmute/Shepard and he is like 16! I got him from the Humane society when he was almost 1.

He is very old with a balance problem, cysts, and arthritis, plus he is loosing his hearing.

I am sad that I may have to put him down soon, I am thinking his quality of life is poor, but when I look in his eyes I still see life in him.
I just hope he goes quietly and peacefully.

    RIP

Man, that sucks. Sorry to hear.

My grandparents, who live at the house I grew up in, just had to put their miniature schnauzer down a couple weeks ago. We always had them growing up, and they're usually very defensive, territorial dogs that take some time to warm up to strangers. This last one was a freak, it was extremely friendly. I always looked foward to seeing him when visiting home. I was sadder about him than I was when we had to put my own dog down.

And I wholeheartedly agree that cats suck donkey balls.
