    Anybody know anything about tile?

So, I'm tiling my bathroom with run-of the mill 4x4 ceramic tile.
I wanted to use some 1x6 tiles to add some contrast and couldn't believe the price.
    4x4 tile $0.14
1x6 plain white ceramic tile $2.00

What the fuck is going on here? I'd have to drop $500 on these 1x6 tiles alone to do the design I want.
Anybody have any insight? Is this normal? Is this just a HomeDepot rear-end job? Would a tile supplier be any better or do I need to re-think my design?

1x6 tile is a lot harder to produce due to the shape not being stable while drying and when its fired as it tends to warp so there is alot of waste and extra labor but i think that price is a bit high unless the glaze is something special or if it is a decorative tile.

Is that $2 each or $2/sqft? Most home depot prices are by the sqft. My advice is spend the money and do it exactly how you want it...the little extra cost now isn't gonna hurt nearly as bad as saying "fuck, I wish i did it this way" for the next 20 years every time you look at the floor.
Depending on the grade and quality, tiles seem to have a wide price range anyways...I've seen some stone tiles over $7 sqft

Yeah, I hear you... It looks like I'm just gonna suck it up. It's $2 each. Sunsabitchez.
Should look pretty hot when it's done, though.

It may be worth it to shop around a little bit though...the 12x12 granit tiles I bought for my house were $1.99 each at home depot and $4.99 each at lowes.

Building shit gone through the roof. I always send the $ I hate looking @ the shit I cheaped out on. I'm redoing my kitchen as we speek tile & oak this time.
Cut out half the wall & put in a bar on the other half .
Retiling & foating floors in the rest of the house.
It's not as bad when your spending some ones $ sucks when its yours.

BUY KNEE PADS!!!!! Ouch!! I just did my bathroom which is 9X13 using 12X12 tiles @ 2.78 a piece. All material and tooling minus the tile cutter = $400 !

The price is also based on if the color goes all the way through the tile or if it is just a glaze and how many tiles they make. 1x6 accent tiles are going to cost a lot more then 4x4 field tiles.

Free advice - take a few spare tiles and do a small layout on a scrap of plywood to see if the notch heights are the same for the different tiles, and if the colors all go together (field, accent, grout). Then do a dry layout for the entire room with all the cuts done. Leave it alone for an hour or so, and then come back and look at it to make sure all the grout lines will be consistant. It's easier to do all the cutting and shifting if you aren't racing thinset.
