    1) Metric Socket Set, 7-25mm, 1/4" and 3/8", with ratchets and spinners plus a 3/8" beam type torque wrench that measures in inch-pds. Plus a good set of 1/2" sockets with a twist-style torque wrench for your axles. And metric wrenches, for those places a socket won't reach. Oh and impact sockets for your air compressor.

Basically anything that fits around a bolt, you want one of each of those

    2) A mityvac hand bleeder kit, they kick ass for brake bleeding!

    3) A few sets of feeler gauges for valve adjustments. These are cheap, so buy a few sets and you'll get a variety of differnt thicknesses, plus you can get a set of angled gauges which fit under certain designs a bit better than the flat ones.

    4) I have a compression tester, shouldn't really be needed for most things but if you're going to get one, get the one with a variety of different spark plug socket threads that screw on one end, and the other end attaches to the gauge with a 3/8" npt fitting. That way, you can attach the 3/8" npt fitting to an air compressor and do a leakdown test too!

    5) Ooh, chain breaker and riveter! I just bought the motion pro one, I'm gonna rivet my chain as soon as the new rear sprocket comes in, I'll let you know how it works.

    cool..good info..what about a parts washer..and like a tap and die set..or liek a thread cleaner?

A friend of mine used to do that everytime he took a bolt off to get that crap out before re-installing..kinda anal but seems like a good idea...but I forget if he used a regular tap or a specialty tool for thread cleaning...

I have a parts washer in my gargae and have yet to use it for motorcycle projects. Car projects use it all the time because the parts are usually disgusting when they come out.

As for wrenches: good tools, Crafstman at a minimum. A set of hex sockets, medium length with a ball end, six and twelve point sockets, six and twelve point combination wrenches. I have a set of gear wrenches. I wouldn't want to break something loose with them, but for turning nuts and bolts in they are great. A good assortment of screwdrivers and pliers, and a set of circlip pliers. These will pay for themselves with the first transmission you rebuild. And another vote for the beam torque wrench.

I don't like to use air tools because you lose feel of what the bolts are doing. I have seen too many of them broken off by over zealous impact wrenches.

    Good Luck...

A tap and die set will do what your asking, but a thread restoring kit will do the same job for a fraction of the price. Pick up some never sieze, locktite, sockets are great, wrenches are definate I personally love ratcheting wrenches they are worth a few extra bucks, a good breaker bar, and some allen T-handles or sockets. Stay away from cheap tools, they always break when you need them the most, and the store is always closed when they break, Craftsman tool are decent tools for reasonable money and you know where you can get them replaced if you need to. I buy Snap-On because U feel the need to spend alot of money I could use for other things on sweet tools I don't really need....but the intrest rate is awesome!! The Snap-On tools are aslo awesome, but overkill unless you do alot of tinkering in the garage, or if you just appreciate the finer tools in life! The same could be said for Mac, Matco, Cornwell, (just covering the bases because I know someone will say "I've got Mac and they are better than Snap-On Ha Ha" know what I mean???).

    SO TRUE!
But since they banned smoking in the workplace, I have cut my smoking down 2/3's.
They didn't ban coffee drinking yet!
