This seems like a reasonable price. Not something I need, but maybe somebody reading does?!

    Re: Tractors - Educate me

    Here's an interesting one....

My Dad is getting a new JD tractor....cool. He has an old Simplicity Sunstar 20 in excellent condition with a decent compliment of attachments; 60" deck, front mount snow blow, dozer blade, and some weird scooper bucket for the 3 pt hitch. He wants to give it to me.

    Here's where I struggle a bit:

1st, I'm not quite prepared to store all of this in spite of my massive barn.
2nd, I don't really need it, if anything I need a "real" tractor with FEL
3rd, I'm not sure I'm capable of turning it down?

If it weren't free, in known good condition and have some of the implements already with it.. it'd be an easy pass IMO.

Would you rather mow with that thing than what you have? I think you would.

NESR jokes aside, I think 2WD on a machine with turf wheels is going to be a huge limitation. Mine has turfs and works ONLY because it has 4WD and a locking diff. And even then I am glad I have a dry bit of land.

2WD. No loader, or option for one. I'm guessing no real ability to power external hydraulics. Not substantial or heavy enough to use any sizable ground engaging implements.

Is the transmission on that thing stout? I know the transmission on my rider is very weak, easy to stall and overheats easy.

Can you try the "why don't we just store this on craigs-list until I'm ready" line?

    1st, Harbor Freight easy-up?

2nd, considering the price, I'd file this one under "rather have it and not need it then need it and not have it".

    Re: Tractors - Educate me

Firewood has gotten much easier with the tractor. I was able to get ahold of several 275 and 330 gallon IBC totes for free. The 330s will hold about 1/3 of a cord. Filled with mostly green red oak and some ash, the 330s are at the limit for what the loader will lift as it was straining and wouldn't curl at all. The 275s with green wood lift no problem but struggle to curl. I have one 275 bin with dry wood and it throws it around without issue.

My backhoe is off for the moment and the 250ish pound rake wasn't enough ballast. The 650ish pound box blade was barely enough.
