That looks fun! Good to see the electronic nannies can't prevent all hooliganism. The last moose I had to avoid blocked the whole road, so it was a pure lock (the brakes) and load (your shorts) maneuver.

Saab used to do a Moose test on their cars, but avoidance wasn't part of it.

This is the new one. Looks closer to the Tundra in the vids but either way it doesn't appear Toyota is addressing adverse maneuvering stability between generations.

Re: For all you truck shopping...

Um, what I'm seeing is a truck with FAR more grip than any of the others. What saves the other vehicles in that vid is massive understeer when pushed. The Toyo is having none of that and doing the maneuver as directed by the driver. Listen to the lack of tire protest, and also note that the Toyo snaps around harder in each direction but always goes where pointed while the others 'plow'.

So, yeah, I'm thinking Toyo is on my list.

Eh. I drove a short wheelbase, high CG vehicle all through high school (Jeep CJ7) and survived just fine. If you counter quicker in the other direction this is a non-event. In any case this behavior or lack thereof would have zero influence on my purchase decision.

I thought that at first, but that doesn't explain why it looks like he runs wide in an attempt to avoid getting it up on two wheels. I was thinking swaybars are too tight, not letting the body roll so it climbs the sidewall instead? The blue VW truck looked very poised and seemed like had grip minus one quick front end slide.

Edit: Here's a few more for comparison

i dont believe thats true. the tacoma platform is not global; in fact, i dont believe that the hilux even sits on the tacoma frame, especially since the hilux can be had in configurations up to 1 ton. i cant find any data supporting that the 2016+ tacos and hilux share a frame and i know that up until at least 2016...they did not. that doesnt mean that im not wrong, but everything i read said that even in 2012, the hilux was still on a 1995 taco frame and it didnt get that until 98. even then it wasnt really a taco frame as it had been modified to carry a 1 ton payload. in fact it had more in common with the old T100s than a Taco since it used the T100 axles and suspension. the frame was almost identical, just not as wide as the the T100.
i think the biggest point here is that even if its the same as the taco...its not. tacos are for americans. they want a nice ride and handling for driving on pavement and hauling around mountain bikes and canoes. in the market the hilux is popular, paved roads dont exist. they are bought by farmers and designed to have a 1 ton payload. its not a passenger vehicle. its a work truck. in other words, lets see a 1 ton dump truck without dual rear wheels do that maneuver.
im not saying its not a safety issue, but youre really comparing apples to chain link fences

This truck doesn't have dual wheels. And the Ram amongst others managed it just fine. Regurgitate whatever BS you like but this is shitty engineering.

The true crime? In the US all vehicles are required to have stability control, you start that swerve shit in a 2017 and it'll just shut down.

the ram is a full size truck. i dont have to regurgitate any BS since everything ive stated is fact. so once again youre comparison is invalid since youre basing your opinion on a vehicle that isnt sold here to begin with.
the hilux IS NOT a tacoma. a compact car IS NOT a school bus. a minivan IS NOT an offroad vehicle.
speaking of shitty engineering...hows your Tiguan?

    For all you truck shopping...

You just were talking about dual wheels. The OP truck has none. They showed both full size and midsize trucks completing the maneuver just fine.

My Touareg, handles just fine. Thing is a beast. Regardless of what the EPA has to say about it. But nice try at deflection there boss.

Doesn't matter what size, suv or truck. There is a reason manufacturers pay attention to this guys videos. Jeep sent like three different models after the Grand Cherokee failed initially. It's a sign of handling and stability.

It's becoming clear why fewer people and fewer threads are happening on NESR. Everything devolves into insults here.

    i said without dual wheels.

tiguan..touareg...whatever. not a deflection...just pointing out the irony.

    the insults started from you.

youre crying about a vehicle that isnt sold here anyways so why do you even care? youre just gonna buy a VW anyways.

BAH! the chevy Tornado doesnt even have Nav...cross chevy off the list! shitty engineering! amateurs!

It's hard since we don't have that test here. I'd love to see the Tacoma or Tundra do it. Maybe their rusty frames would break before they roll over?

maybe. should be noted though that toyota didnt have to do anything about those frames. most of those trucks were 10-15 years old and most were near the end of their life as a road going vehicle. toyota couldve just as easily shrugged their shoulders and said oh well and walked away...and toyota owners still wouldve bought another. instead they stepped up in the name of customer service and stood behind their product...even when they had no obligation to. i respected that. they spent ungodly money on those programs.

    whats VW doing for you?

Re: For all you truck shopping...

doing a little digging..the 2015 Hilux was still running the 95 taco frame that was internally gusseted and fully boxed in as well as beefed up for a 1 ton payload. 2016s chassis is also fully boxed, has larger cross members and reportedly has 20% more torsional rigidity than 2015. no wonder it wants to roll over.

How is it relevant? Altho their buyback program for 2.0s is fantastic. I'm sure I'll be all right. Or just keep my shit for another 200,000 miles.
