Where should i try and sell a unique car?

So i am importing this car from japan via the uk then to the us. I just put it on a cargo ship heading to boston. Its a toyota soarer aka lexus sc300 but with a factory twin turbo motor out of a supra. The things the balls. Its just plain fun and its totally oem. We didnt get them in the states. It will have a clean mass title and of course be right hand drive among other japanese oddities no one ever talks about.
Anyway, what sites have people had good luck selling weird cars like this on? I know ebay would be the best but to to be honest im tired of dealing with them. Craigslist is for pedo's and whack jobs so thats a last resort. I do have a dealership that will consign it for me which is fine but i think more exposure will only help. Im going to be importing vehicles full time going forward so i want to establish a reputation as well. If i can find a website that i can use to sell other types of vehicles, not just this car like a lexus forum, that would be best. I already have a few bikes ready to go but im holding back until i see how my dealership buddy handles the car.

    Perhaps Hemmings motor news .

They have a rather large classified section.

For that type of car I'd think Bring A Trailer would be the next logical spot with Ebay & CL off the list

^^ I was just going to suggest Bring a Trailer as well. That's a cool car man.

Do you have a Website or something? I'd love to keep tabs on what else you bring over stateside in the future.

no website or anything like that. I'm just going to buy things I want and think I can resell. Ideally what I'm going for is the dealership I'm working with to get to be known as an import specialist then people would search them out to import a car for them and I would go and get it and take care of all the leg work here. Until that happens I will be using my own money so I'm only going to be buying things I don't mind being stuck with if they don't sell.
This is the first car I'm doing 100% on my own. I've done alot prior to this but it always involved other people doing some things. This car is like a dry run to get the final costs figured out and see how the system works in its entirety. They only real grey area I have is the customs process once it lands in Boston. It's not going to be a big deal as I've seen plenty of cars go through already, I just don't know the step by step process. Others have always done it for me. After its picked up in customs the title is just a trip to the dmv.

There's a FB page called "obscure cars for sale" not sure if it would generate any sales leads but it's a cool page.

Maybe duPont Registry might be a good place? I know I've seen a lot of rare imports like that in there. Used to see imported GT-Rs in there all the time back when MotoRex was still a thing.

Re: Where should i try and sell a unique car?

I checked dupont and talked to a few people who have sold on it. it's really not what it used to be so they say. unless your selling something crazy it yields almost no sales. even gtr sales have dried up on it as you noted. it's not a go to place for those looking for cheaper vehicles. if I put my tt supra up for sale that's the place I would list it but the soarer and probably most of the vehicles I will be importing won't have the supra pedigree that can command the outrageous prices.

Honestly I'd go with Craigslist and BaT and see what happens.

Set up a profile on Grindr and simply put "small Asian machine packing big power." You'll have plenty of interest.

Bat is your best bet. but also list it on a cars.com As people still look for low mileage OG lexus'

I don't want to burst your bubble but do you have any idea what your looking to get for this? The cleanest SC400 with low miles is only going for 11 grand. Also since its a 1JZ-GTE not the much love 2JZ-GT this is not much of an aftermarket for this engine, as its pretty unloved compared to the bigger 3 liter version.

    Its no supra.

Slight tangent, but curious if Lexus is moving the IS-Fs or if its still taking a beating by the C63/M3/M4. While at Limerock last weekend, I saw the new Lexus coupes. All look gorgeous, particularly the LC, but engine lineup is outdated and I remember the IS-F was in particular was very poorly reviewed by the auto media.

I'm very aware of what I can get for it, it's not like I'm looking for crazy money. The motor is just about as good as my tt supra but obviously different. I know it's not as loved but alot of stuff can carry over. I don't think this is a car for builders either way. I think a couple little mods to get you to 350hp and that's it. just enjoy the lexus quality with a strong motor. It's a cruiser at heart.

I think your thinking of the supra tt your familiar with in the states. The mk3 supra here had the 1jz tt stock.

Re: Where should i try and sell a unique car?

The IS-F was a last gen car, it was replaced with the RC-F which on paper was supposed to be pretty awesome, but it took a beating in reviews. When they launched in 2015 I had the chance to drive both back to back at Montecello and the M4 was downright violent. But the V8 has way more character. plus the extra 400 lbs its carrying around does show. Butif it were my money it would be a toss up between the lexus and benz. the BMW's interior is crap. The lex and benz are way more civil daily drivers.

There is also an IS300/350 F-Sport (which has the looks but the regular V6s and AWD) those sell like fucking hotcakes. but they are not true "F" cars

The then dropped the GS-F on us last summer. Its a brilliant car, but a little pricey, especially compared to the CTS-v which comes with 200 More horsepower for similar money. Everyone compared it to the super sedans M5, E63, RS6, and CTSv to which it was seriously out gunned. According to lexus it competes with stuff like the BMW550i m-sport, E550 amg-sport and the CTS-V-sport which are all these sub 500 hp fire breathers.

But you also have to remember that the Lexus wont have all the headaches associated with everything else I mentioned.

As for the LC500, its a looker and sounds the part when you romp on it. I think Lexus fucked us by showing it doing all this crazy shit in the ads. A Super sports car it is it noy. Its a Luxury car 1st; Sports car second. I:E a grand tourer. IF you got a chance to sit in the it the interior in Toasted Carmel is to die for.

The problem with that 5 liter V8 is that it needs to rev, to make any real power, granted there is something to be said for a NA v8 that can hang out about 7k on the tach, (peak power isn't till 7100) This engine also dosent make a ton of torque either, but no one is giving the GT350r shit for not making that much tq. Rumors are that they are keeping the V8 and adding turbos for the F variants.
Lexus is finally embracing boost as the next LS500 that is coming this fall is a twin turbo set up.

God I don't know what part of this thread to start tearing into first

Lets see the Bill of Lading from the freight company since its already been ship

    What year is it

    How much did you pay

    Who's handing the customs entry

FYI if its "already been shipped" and you "don't know the step by step process" you're already f'ed

I occasionally see some Soarers listed by the common big name importers on their Facebook pages. Yesterday, Driver Motorsports just listed a '92 Soarer 2.5GT with 24,000kms for $14,900.

Bring A Trailer hasn't been a real hot spot for selling JDMs. The last couple R32's didn't have that much activity.

Try joining Soarer facebook pages and forums to post it.

you do know I've been doing this for others for years right? This is my first foray into handling everything myself, not being some middle man. If you think it's a scam I guess my trips to Japan and me driving it from my house in london to the cargo ship in person aren't enough.

I'm far more familiar with the laws than most people. Yes it's being imported under the 25 year rule and no it won't be crushed if it's not accepted. They only do that to set an example for mostly defenders and skylines coming in illegally. You have every option to simply put it back on the ship and return it to its origin if you want to to pay the money, which isn't that much.
Technically it can be a 93 with an early enough first registration. mine happens to be a 92 with an April registration. Many 93 cars were produced and sold early so you can find a 93 with a 92 first Reg. Most skylines that have been shipped over right now fall under this grey area. all the 92's were gobbled up and that left early 93 cars just waiting to be shipped.

If you've been doing this for years why are you even asking us anything and how don't you know the step by step process even if a customs broker / car importer has handled it for you prior you should know all the processes and paperwork by heart

This thread reads with no continuity

Re: Where should i try and sell a unique car?

because I don't sell them, I just got them and shipped them for various people. This is the first one I am doing everything myself. From the scouting to the purchase to the shipping and finally the sale ( as much as I can part of that from across the world.)
Shipping these things always involves a registered importer. You pay them to do the paperwork for you. I am now using a RI but I am doing the paperwork myself instead of just showing up at customs with a prepared binder. doing it myself can save thousands per vehicle. There are no hard rules for it, it always varies with fees and such. That is what I'm working on now. It's not hard but it is picky.

Do you have anything to add to this thread really? Seems like your kind of a hater when you have no need to be.
