    Unexplained activity in the house.

As most know, last year I sold my fairly new house, and bought a 200 year old farm house. The house is charming and piece full for the most part, but in the past 3-4 months, there has been a few unexplained things happen.

Now there are a lot of folklore tails in the area, Dolly Cole and Ramtail Mill are a few that are close. Dolly Cole brook runs through the property, and Ramtail Mill remnants are a mile away. Google those if you're interested...

First sign of activity, about 4 months ago, I came home from work and the front storm door was open. You'd normally think nothing of this, but it's an old heavy wooden door, that can only be unlatched from the inside. The kicker, 2 weeks prior to this, I taped the main door shut for the winter, and the tape had not been disturbed. I pulled the door open, the storm door latches were in good working order and not damaged. I closed it, and taped the main door shut again. A week later, it happened again. I put a 3" wood screw in the storm door holding it closed.

A week later, we went on an ATV ride for about an hour on a cold winter day. Came back, and the front porch door was wide open. I could see it being wind, but it was a calm day.

A week later, my room mate and I were eating dinner, and the patio French door suddenly clicks and opens. It's a new door, also in perfect working condition.

I was stripping wall paper in the guest bathroom about a month later, and the light in the shower area, shuts off. I thought it was a light bulb, so I went and got another bulb, when I came back, the light was back on. It has only happened once.

Random times, the master bathroom exhaust fan, would sometimes come on for a couple seconds, then go off. I never even turned the switch on, it was always off.

Last weekend was the most odd one. I woke up about 11:30 pm to the smell of a candle burning. The smell was strong and the entire house had the same smell. I checked everywhere, basement, al the bedrooms, kitchen, etc... I found nothing. The smell was gone about 20 minutes later.

I'm not much of a believer in this stuff, and I try to come up with reasonable and logical explanations why these things are happening. Is my house haunted?

    Yes.

Please post every hour on the hour so we know you're still alive. Failure to do so will result in having the Ghostbusters dispatched with authorization to bust with extreme prejudice.

Tomorrow's post: Antique farmhouse burned down from electrical fire. Asshole ghost prime suspect, says irate homeowner.

I'm one of those people who assumes there's some weird scientific explanation over the probability that it is paranormal. Unfortunately, that basically means accepting that you may never understand the cause without getting multiple PHD's.

I just read about those places. Couldn't pay me to live near there lol. When I pass through RI I'll make sure to steer clear.

My mom has stories like this of the house she grew up in. While I consider myself a rational person, I am also fully aware of the limitations of science to explain many many things in this world.

How do you feel about all this Mark? Indifferent? Creeped out? Excited?

I'm not excited about it, but not creeped out by it.

There's no way it's the room mate. He leaves for work before me and gets home from work much later than I do. He has also experienced some odd things while here alone, I just didn't get in to those details.

Most likely kid ghosts, they tend to leave the door open, lights on. If the toilet seat is getting left up, you can narrow it down to a boy kid ghost.

Re: Unexplained activity in the house.

    This thread has potential!

If you want it all to stop, I agree with scubasteveRR above, get some video cameras. Video cameras are paranormal activity's kryptonite. Nothing gets rid of paranormal activity better that closed circuit cameras!

In all seriousness, I, along will all the other grand kids, experienced stuff like this on a regular basis when we would visit my grandparents in their very old Victorian house. My mom and her siblings also experienced it too when they were kids living there. Nothing bad ever happened, but man there was some creepy shit. Great old house, but you could always sense there was a presence. I wrote a whole bunch of essays back in college about all of our experiences in that house ... odd thing is, all those essays have since disappeared ... hmmm???

was the screw torn out, missing or unscrewed?

I've had that happen, both in my house, and office, on double doors that are less than 10 years old, have you had any earthquakes ? that is my theory, I know the first time it happened at my house, it coincided with a local 2.1 quake, that otherwise wasn't felt

for that matter, a small quake could explain all your experiences right down to the candle smell releasing gasses

    Get a dog.

Either the dog will clue you in to what's going on, or you can just blame it all on the dog.

    Win-win.
