    Valentine 1 vs Escort 8500

Im looking to get a radar detector in the very near future to use on both the bike and my car. I have looked that the V1 and the 8500 and cant really decide if its worth the extra money for the V1? What do you guys think?

I have owned both, the V1 has a slight advantage of the 8500. Both are about equivalent, so don't listen to the BS between the two camps, the one thing V1 gets ya is the directional arrows, which are sometimes useful, and sometimes just an annoyance.

But when we ride very fast motorcycles, we ride with immaculate sanity. We might abuse a substance here and there, but only when it's right. The final measure of any rider's skill is the inverse ratio of his preferred Traveling Speed to the number of bad scars on his body. It is that simple: If you ride fast and crash, you are a bad rider. If you go slow and crash, you are a bad rider. And if you are a bad rider, you should not ride motorcycles.

    +1 on the 8500..

it comes with more accessories and is smaller on the bike.

The V-1 has more than directional arrows, it has 2 receivers, one facing rearward.. you have to decide if you want the same range behind you as in front.

The V-1 is your best choice. Many LEOs are now carrying bidirectional radar and playing tag team with it.

I have the V1, and I love it.

The nice thing about the arrows is that if you dont see the cop, you will at least know when you have gone by them - ie, you watch the arrows indicate in front of you, then to the side, then behind you.

Also very cool for the rare instance that more than one cop is shooting radar at you.

Big bucks, but worth it IMO.

I am in the same camp, and will be purchasing over the winter... Tickets hit insurance too much, so I am paying forward and investing about $800 as opposed to my first ticket and 6 years of paying surcharges.

As to the Bi-Direction, rear-detection, etc... Not really worth it on bikes IMHO. I know people who have both, and most people who do a lot of riding, "Don't Look Down" to see the arrows. So directional does squat. They use either H.A.R.D. in their helmet to flash when it goes off, or run a cord for the audible beep. Recently I saw a right up by a Radar Group that gave the Valentine a not to the rear detection, but the 8500 the overall win, because it was better with POP as well as the same or better in most detection distances.

The system I am looking at is 8500 with a set of Blinder M20s for front and rear Laser defussion and a H.A.R.D. and all the stands, mounts and wiring. Should be in the neighborhood of $600 - $800 depending on the accories and mounting...
