Anyone watch the CBS Nightly News?

Halfway through each episode they honor "Fallen Heroes". Whenever this comes on I always stop what I'm doing and watch. They usually show a few pictures of the soldier with family and friends...doing something he/she enjoys. It's really depressing. When you hear on the radio "two soldiers were killed today..." it's sad, but seeing them on TV in better times hits even harder...Anyone seen these clips?

Anyone watch the CBS Nightly News?

Nope, not me. I don't like being misled even though the information given to him was wrong. He thought it was correct and acted on it. He also shoulda known better. He should be removed from a position of power that is seen by the entire country on a daily basis.

    And the best part is:

George W. Bush or Dan Rather both fit in the above statement just fine.

Bit of a difference. The Dan knew his sources weren't thoroughly checked, but acted on it regardless. W was given the same info from several sources (intel from various countries) leading him to believe there were WMD. The Dan was trying to influence an election, Bush is trying to save lives.

Check out this web page -

And before you dismiss it as "left-wing propoganda", or whatever, look at a few of the links.

Rather is not directly or indirectly responsible for 1000+ american deaths and at least 10x that many Iraqi deaths.

I'm not claiming Bush is soley responsible since all those guys did sign up.

But Bush can't be Commander in Chief and play with the Big Boys toys without accepting ultimate responsibility and being accountable.

I don't see how you can possibly disagree with that, or with the fact that Rather is a lowly news anchor, so it is ridiculous to scrutinize his actions more than the President's.

I believe Bush does hold himself accountable, Rather does not. Not to mention Rather was trying to surreptitously affect the outcome of an election.

Also Ben, you stated that Bush 'plays with the big boy toys'. You're forgetting about the whole process of how we got to war in Iraq in the first place. Our elected officials, including your canidate, voted FOR the war.

I am a democrat and was opposed to the war from the beginning but having said that , I believe the administration picked and choosed the intel they wanted and ignored the intel that had an opposing point of view so they could justify the push for war .
When the vote went down in the house and senate all the opposing intel had not been brought to the attention of both houses.
One of the reason I was opposed to the war is because I served 6 months in Lebanon in the early 80's and you cannot bring democracy to the middle east as their culture is totally different than western culture and their values are based on family and tribal loyalties which goes back thousand of years and the biggest problem is they view westerners as beneath them and not worthy of being equal with them .
Every Iraqi that is killed has an extended family and their families demand that blood money be paid to avenge their relatives death which is something the american administrarton is opposed too so you then end up with a lot more people hell bent on avenging their relatives death and they then become insurgents.
Too get a military point of view of the war their is a website called www.sftt.org.
It is run bt col david Hackworth who is the most decorated living vet alive right now and his point of view is solely for the soldiers and is neither right or left but tries to hold the pencil pushers in the pentagon responsible for the front line soldiers

It is arguable whether this president is accountable or not. He rarely holds press conferences, and only answers pre-approved questsions.

Congress *authorizes* the use of force. Congress does not decide when we go to war. The President makes the final decision as Commander in Chief. From time to time the President (not Bush, in general) has abused this privelege to go to war before congress declares war. Congress has not fought this very hard so there is a precedent for it, which has given the Executive branch more power than it used to have. As Commander in Chief, I still hold the President ultimately responsible for the decision to go to war since he has the final say in the matter.

Congress definitely did not force us into Iraq. Without the President's efforts the war would not have happened.

Feel free to say the war is good and Bush's decision was correct, but please admit it was HIS decision.

Again.. you are putting words in my mouth, I did not say *soley* responsible. (Cause no one stood up against him)

But he definitely shoulders a large portion of the responsibility. The administration came up with the idea to go into Iraq and presented it to the UN and Congress.

If the President had decided we needed to go into North Korea, we probably would have ended up in North Korea, not Iraq. Homeland security, the Pentagon, congress, etc.. were not pushing anyone to go into Iraq, at least publicly.

And there WAS opposition. Even Colin Powell tried to say it was a bad idea, and he got slapped down. Everyone knows who is in charge at the White House.
