I've bought three watches from Dave and they've all been on sale, two deeply discounted. I've never asked if there was any more room because I always knew (based on the market) I was getting a good to very-good deal, was getting great service, and was supporting a terrific brick & mortar small business. They are straight shooters there. I'd just purchase it for what they're advertising it for if you love it.

Dave is friendly and easy to talk to. You shouldn't go in to it like buying a car, but certainly ask what he can do.

Thanks, yea I'm certainly not trying to low-ball him and the prices listed are more than fair I've just never dealt with him/his shop and seemed to remember hearing and reading about him working with folks on pricing. Just wanted an idea of proper protocol before I went in. Much appreciated

A few NESR people have bought watches from him - tell him how you found his shop.

Went down Saturday morning, and frankly I should have called first. I was quite disappointed to find that of the many Ball watches they have listed on their website as being "in-stock", they literally only have 3 pieces in the store, none of which I had any interest in.

Re: Any other watch geeks here?

So after visiting 4 different shops last Saturday and striking out in my attempt to purchase locally, I ended up ordering online and I must say the experience was better than I could have predicted. I know Jomashop is typically the go-to online resource, but I found the watch I was looking for $100 cheaper at Discount Watches for Men and Women - Certified Watch Store

I had a few questions, and they were very responsive in their online chat and were able to quickly and confidently answer all of my inquiries in a manner that provided confidence in purchasing from a lesser-known vendor. Ordered the watch Monday morning around 10am and it was at my door yesterday afternoon. Couldn't be happier.

I really like the Skeleton, but I was looking for a simple dress watch. Original plan was a Ball Fireman but I've also developed a soft spot for Oris and I couldn't beat the price.

I have always loved watches but haven't had much chance to buy my own. I also love wood products. I bought a knife from this company a few months ago and loved the quality of it. I took a chance and bought this watch. I should have it in the next few days.

Same here in regard to the wood styling. My ex bought me this one for Xmas a couple years ago. It looks great, but feels a little cheap in comparison to higher end pieces... which is to be expected I suppose. Unique addition to the few I have though.

Those are pretty cool. Shame they only have a Yankees and a Wrigley piece in their MLB series. I'd be ALL over a Fenway piece...

Just found this thread and I love that we have so many other watch geeks here. You guys should check out NOMOS if your into anything classic looking with in house parts. They make their own balance wheels and hair springs so their pretty legit and comparable in price to a tag ($$$ but not as bad as a rolex). Mines mechanical wind and has been accurate anywhere from +0 at 90 degrees, to +8 when very active (no motorcycling/swimming) which is way more accurate than anything else (mechanical) within 5 grand of that, but it is still pretty pricey. Tissot is a good option too, but I'm Tissot certified to sell them and therefore bias.

Is there a best online shop for watches? Looking for a nice one, but don't know what I want, so being able to browse online would be best.

There are a few online retailers that deal in mid-high end watches. If you're trying to decide on which direction you want to go, browse through 301 Moved Permanently for a bit. It's a very Omega-heavy bunch over there and everyone's got wood for Speedmasters but you can find posts/commentary on many other higher end watch brands.

I've read some not-so-good things about Jomashop when dealing in higher end watches. There have been a few horror stories from guys who have bought Speedmasters from them. I bought one of my Oris' from Discount Watches for Men and Women - Certified Watch Store and had a great experience. Also have heard good things about Chi-Town Watch | Chicago's Source for Authentic Luxury Watches

I really like Paul Duggan, which is awful handy because his shop is located right in Boston. I have the advantage of visiting in person, but the online shop is updated nearly every day, and I understand many of his clients never step in the door (http://pduggan.com). For me its a good mix, late model and vintage watches, fully serviced and warrantied, at way better pricing than a shop like Aaron Faber in NYC (Aaron Faber | New York, NY) or Matthew Bain in Miami (Fine Watches For Sale - Buy Modern Watches and Rare Vintage Watches - Rolex, Patek Philippe, Cartier).
