The ej22 runs smooth, not even close to that though. It is super quiet at idle, when I first did the conversion it took me awhile to stop thinking I stalled when I would come to lights.

Same wiring though.. Pulling it apart I think it was the alternator wiring.

So far I have scored all the vanagon bits that got cooked still waiting for some subaru parts to show up. I also picked up a welder and a bunch of welding supplies, time to start fabricating all the bits I have been daydreaming of.

Put some Moto related prints up on the site too!

Re: Wesfalia or Similar Conversion Van

So a few months have passed since. I have since sourced a new motor and took the wiring harness on myself. Which involved Identifying and eliminating about 90% of this mess

I found a cause of the fire.... Threw a rod through the block and a piece hit one of the metal fuel lines that run under the intake. The alternator was hiding the hole in the block...

I got an ej25 SOHC 2003 with 65k miles it should be going in this week. I am putting my shortened oil pan on today as well as cleaning things up. I will run this motor till I have either the subaru diesel or a TDI motor ready to go.

There has been some amazing winter surf this year so far.

Van Rolled 100k just before the fire

That was laying right on top of the motor when I started dismantling it. First motor I have killed/ had go kaboom.

The amount of room around a subaru motor makes timing belt and head gasket maintenance easy to do with the motor still in the vehicle.

Like replacing the leaky valve cover gaskets

You didn't notice the rod doing that?? Just the subsequent fire?

It happened instantly all at once, while cresting a hill on 89 in VT doing about 80. No power loss or noise till the pop.

I don't think that van was ever intended to hit 80, nevermind cresting a hill!

Lack of a high roof is a bummer.

Yeah, after having standard vans for the last twenty years I'm loving the standing headroom in the medium roof. There are already some really nice builds.

Re: Wesfalia or Similar Conversion Van

I've been tempted to sell my pop top and put an adventurewagen or northamerican high top on it

    NAHT high top

In other news I have gotten the rest of the pieces I needed to convert my AC compressor to supply my on board air system.

That's sick. Full time hightops are definitely nicer than pops. Does that still house the bed overhead? If so can you stand inside the thing?

Yup! If you want to keep the original westy bed it will fold down.
