    Windsheild wiper problems

Ok, I have an 02 dodge ram and the windsheild wipers stop directly in the center of my windsheild. When I turn them off and turn them on again they go down then back all the way like they should, but at the end of the cycle they stop dead center of the windsheild again. Im thinking it may be a bad wiper motor, but dunno if anyone had any other ideas?

And I cleared all the snow and ice from around the hubs of the wipers and stuff, so its not that.

    Windsheild wiper problems

Well I ran them before I cleared them out, I meant it wasnt hitting anything right now, blocking them from moving.

And how would i remedy this problem? And does it make a difference when it starts the cycle they go all the way to the bottom of the windsheild?

It may not be the motor. When you turn off the switch, the electronics that control the motor keep the motor going until if finishes the cycle. May be a timer relay.

The shaft could be stripped. Known to happen if you leave the wipers on then start the car while they're frozen or blocked.

It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?

It happens even when the wipers are on intermittent too though, not just when I shut off the switch.

pull the wiper arms off. hit the switch, when the shafts rotate down or where they would be when there off put them back on. as its been said you slipped the shaft. they are ment to do this so you don't snap your wiper off or burn the motor out. clean your windshield better next time.

I will give that a shot, thanks guys.

And I think its cause these icy days I leave them on when I get home, then start the car without shutting them back off. I always forget. The lesson is, as always, I'm an idiot.

It defintely didnt slip the shaft, I pulled them off, theres only one way they can fit on.

If Im not being clear, on the drivers side the wiper moves about 90 degrees, 90 being straight up and down, 0 degrees being flat like when they're normally off. Its stuck at 45 degrees, when it starts the cycle it moves DOWN to 0 degrees, then up to 90, then back to 45 and stops. Whether I turn it on or off, and when the wipers a re intermittant.
I think Ill hafta wait till after the holidays and have someone who knows what they're doing look at it, but of course where it is is RIGHT in my line of vision, and Ill be doing a lot of driving over the holidays, but oh well.
    Thanks anyways guys

Likely mechanical and not electrical. the shafts can't spin? Control arms? Something is slipping where it should be grabbing.

I would think itd be something electrical, because when its moving it has complete range of motion. If I just keep it on steady theres no problem, but I dont know anything.

I had a 1989 Chevy blazer that did exactly that....

All i could do was work on my timing, if you shut it off at just the right time they are at the bottom........

    Good luck!

Mine automatically finish the cycle, so no luck on the timing.

The contacts that keep the wiper moving for one full cycle are dirty. It's losing contact at the 45 degree point and thinks that it's at the bottom. You can find the contacts, clean them and then cover the area in dielectric grease to prevent it from happening again.

Hmm, logical. Any idea where they might be located?

Sometimes there is a tab that mechanically actuates the wiper gearing to park the arms too. It can eventually get bent enough that it doesn't make contact hard enough to park the wipers. You have to bend it back into place. Either way, it's going to be sitting on or next to the wiper motor. Pull the arm off the shaft and start digging.
