Wireless service carriers/ has anyone tried xfinity?

The woman and I are due for a phone upgrade and we aren't too satisfied with ATT service. I was thinking about switching to Verizon but Xfinity is now offering unlimited data for $45 a month if you have their cable. They say that it's on the Verizon network so service is probably good. But the only phones that currently work have to be bought through xfinity, so if it's no good it could be hard to sell or switch. Has anyone tried it yet? Any other suggestions for unlimited data plans?

I've been using it for a few months now.

Wifey switched about 4 months ago, then last month my son switched as well.

We're doing the pay by the gig thing, which is something like $13 / GB.

Coverage is the same as we had back in the day with VZW (which is much better than the FI coverage).

There's talk of them doing a Bring Your Own Device in the future, but I haven't seen a specific date for it yet.

I purchased the cheapest phone they had available at the time (which was an LG PowerX).
    Wifey purchased an S8+ outright.
Son is paying monthly for a IPhone 6+ (He didn't want a 7).

    All pretty straight forward.

Did you go to a storefront or do it all online?

All online, but be aware, the way that they ship the phones, someone has to actually be at the delivery address to sign for them.

One of them I had to go to FedEx and pick up. The other 2 I managed to have someone at the house for.

I found out the inconvenient way that this is the case for all phones that get shipped, I guess they get stolen off of porches a lot otherwise.

Sprint has cheap unlimited plans and partners with verizon, so if your in roam, it's using verizon service.

Unlimited data, text and voice and roaming voice and data is unlimited. Only downfall is you only get 500mb of data when your roaming and its slow.

I guess it would be about 1/3 my current bill. Or I could pay more and let an equally shitty company Verizon get my duckets.

    Perhaps, but there's no contract.

Unless you're financing a phone with them there's little risk. If you want to move, port your number and move.

The only risk is that the new phones (2) won't work with another carrier, if xfinity is horrible.

I thought the phone carriers were required to unlock the device if they weren't under a contract obligation? Something along those lines.

Re: Wireless service carriers/ has anyone tried xfinity?

I've been playing around with switching sims between phones for a few days now.

I put my Project Fi sim in my LG Power X, purchased from Xfinity.
I put my Xiinity Mobile sim in my Nexus 5X, purchased from Google.

When I inserted the Project Fi sim in the LG Power X the phone complained that the sim wasn't valid. Other than that, it has worked fine with one exception. I didn't have Google Hangouts set as the default SMS application and when I received a voicemail on the Project Fi number there was an error. I got a text indicating that I would have to actually call and listen to the voicemail, rather than just read it (which normally happens).

Interestingly the Nexus 5X reports the sim to be on "Verizon" rather than on Xfinity. I did have to go into the APN settings and just take the defaults to make it work.

Other than that everything has really just worked without any problems.

I'll probably end up buying a Pixel of some sort and using it with my Xfinity sim as a permanent solution.
