    Wtf 2021 SUV????

We aren't brand whores, but don't like Chevy, Jeeps are junk as well as VW's.

My wife currently drives a 2016 Explorer Sport, 3.5 V6 TT 350/350, loaded. 60k miles and its dying.

We were thinking of the new ST, 3.0 TT 400/400, but this high-ish end vehicle is rusting out and failing at 61k miles.

-4 of her last 5 cars were sticks
-5 of her last 5 cars were turbo
-we have a 5 yr old and 8 yr old
-we live up an 8% degree dead end dirt rd that can be shitty
    -local roads are shitty
    -very little highway
-will run all seasona or summers in the summer, winters in the wimter

I just am out of the loop and don't know.

9 months to pay it off, she wants to pay it off, I say trade it the fuck in. Leading edge of hood is bubbling, inside of rear doors bubbling, AC just vented for some reason, squeaks, etc. So many gizmos, I say RUN.

I like the volvos, but dont know shit about them, and they are pricey.

    Any help please?

Highlander? Might be worth waiting a little longer as the automakers continue to descend into the shit again - plenty of ads right now for 0% and 84 mos. You may be able to get the vehicle you really want using their money if youíre patient.

I'm on my second 2005-2012 generation Pathfinder. So far they've both done more than double that mileage. It's the only SUV I could find that could still tow 6k lbs.

just because I have one.. I fyou're thinking 4 runner ( depending on year)
    I strongly suggest the GX470 or 460
much better ride than the 4 runner, V8 standard, nicer amemnities and if you go for a used one a 100k GX470 2010 soccer mom car can be had for 14k.

Standard sounds sweet, but looking at new. I have more than enough equipment to maintain. Will put 20k miles per year on it, mostly commuting, all weather, performance is a priority though.

    Three row Crossover/SUV?

Top sellers are Grand Cherokee, Highlander, Explorer, Traverse, and Pilot.

But it’s a huge segment. 4Runner, Hyundai Santa Fe, Subaru Ascent, Durango, Passport, Mazda CX-9.

Throw in two rows and you add Outback, Ford Edge, Nissan Murano.

“Luxury” Crossovers & SUV’s are huge sellers as well and prices overlap. BMW X3 and X5, Acura MDX and RDX, Audi, Cadillac, and Mercedes has several sizes.

The luxury brands lease a lot of vehicles then sell them as CPO’s at very competitive prices with a new mid-range.

Don’t know of any that have a manual anymore.

My partner just traded in a 2016 MB glc300, 75k miles, no issues. I was impressed when it made it up our unplowed driveway in 10" wet snow.
He just leased a new Range Rover...what piece of shit compared to the MB.

My work f150 has had the same issue with the ac, twice. Both times it burnt out the electric fan. 48k on the clock

Do you need to tow? I got my wife a 2019 Alltrack SEL MANUAL with ECU reflash for $599 with APR stage 1 at the dealer. It feels more like her previous GTI now. I know you donít like VW but it hits all the right spots - fun to drive, manual, all wheel drive and did I say fun to drive? Got her a dark green with Marakesh brown interior. Looks awesome

Have you checked out Audi Q5ís?

Bit pricier but they drive sweet & have Quattro. Probably some sweet deals coming

2018+ in newest model. DSG trans is fun but more maintenance
2016-2017 are last gen basically bullet proof.

3.0L v6 supercharged & the turbo are damn good engines.

    Re: Wtf 2021 SUV????

We have both a 4 Runner and a Highlander. I have a monster 4 year old. Just a disclaimer I do work for Toyota.

I think our Highlander is a 2018. It is the XLE level. It's very nice and drives very car like. It has 3 row seating that folds flat I believe. It has been a while since I've been in it. I like it but it isn't the vehicle for me if that makes sense. Maybe a little too refined. Not sure. I'm not sad that we have it as it is my wife's car and she has been happy with it.

Our 4 Runner is a 2020 TRD Pro. I really like this. I think as the warmer weather comes in I'll like it even more. Before I got this I was originally looking at a Jeep for a fun toy as I don't drive much. It turns out they are extremely expensive and the new ones are not as durable with all the electronics inside. 4 Runner gets me close enough with the rear window down, sun roof open and windows down. At first I thought I wouldn't like this as much as my Tundra. Although I do miss aspects about the Tundra such as the truck bed and the towing mirrors I don't think I will go back to one. The one thing I don't like is the cabin noise on the highway. Between the roof rack which is not meant to come off, the Nitto Grapplers, and exhaust it is a bit loud inside. Around town it is fine.

Mazda is in dire straights right now, you could probably get a really good deal on a CX-5 or a CX-9. They're also ranked 2nd most reliable brand behind Toyota consistently, and they're built to be fun (good handling).

If you've had such bad experiences with other brands before that you totally cross them off your list, I'd be adding Ford. No vehicle should ever be dying at 60k miles.

    Re: Wtf 2021 SUV????

If you're shopping Volvo, look at Lexus. The RX350L will give you the three rows of seating that you want, nice sized, and still has 305hp. The other one I'd check out is the MDX, more sportier feel, still in that 300hp area. The crossover SUVs are going to feel much different than the body/frame ones. Drive them and see what is best for you. Friend of mine has the new Volvo XC90 and his wife the XC60. Both very nice, well appointed. But at 20k the XC90 already has squeeks and rattles on flat roads. I just get weary about newer Volvo reliability.

Personally, I'd avoid anything Chrysler Fiat. Nissan is on the verge of going bankrupt. We have multiple Audis in the fleet here at work and they seem to be hit or miss. Couple of them can't find their way out of the service dept now that they've hit 60k and others are going very well with mileage over 150k.

    So I'd be shopping,
    Highlander
    RX350L
    Pilot
    MDX

Completely agree. Add the 4R to this list as well.

I was looking into Volvos a while back and ended up getting another Subaru. To me, the value wasn't there in the Volvos when there are many other choices out there with equal (or better) build quality, safety, performance and cost (insurance, registration, etc)

I would think you could still buy a 4Runner in manual. You can still buy a manual Tacoma.

A 4 year old Ford that's dead at 60K and you're considering another one?? Put a steering rack in that thing yet, btw?

I'm a Yota whore now. You can't beat them IMO for appliance vehicles. 4Runner would be my pick in the SUV field.

Then again I like depreciated vehicles and not new so the price premium doesn't effect me as much.

Didn't even think of the Subies. What is the big one, Tribeca? That's a 3-row deal, right?

EDIT, Sorry it's the Ascent. Pretty nice looking interior from the website.
