A beautiful bike that I eventually had to turn down.

I went to check out this bike couple weeks ago, and it is even MORE sexy in person. Bike is in awesome shape - Joel takes care of his stuff.

Being only the second "liter bike" I've actually ridden (Joel, I think both you and I were scared as I rolled down your driveway!), the power seems quite amazing. The only other "big bike" I've ridden was the Ducati Streetfighter. I actually tested a Triumph Speed Triple the other day, another bike that catches my eye, but is not sexy as the Brutale (IMO).

The throttle, compared to the Ducati Fighter and Triumph Speed Triple, was a bit on/off, but once I got used to managing that, it was easier to deal with - I'm sure more time would mean even better throttle control. I want something more powerful for the next bike... this bike does it.

I was also trying to find something more "upright" and this bike does it, and does it comfortably. You sit straight up, pegs right below you. (I'm about 5'8" with 31" inseam...). felt similar to the Triumph, though I felt the Triumph was wider, and the Ducati, while fun, was more uncomfortable.

Riding, the bike feels good -- I didn't get used to the short wheelbase and rake of the bike during my test ride, but I think once you do, this thing would easily be tossed into corners.

So why didn't I buy, even though I love this machine?

I realized that if I was to buy the next bike, I should see what else is out there first. The only other bike I looked at that fits the same category as the Brutale (naked fighter) was the Speed Triple. The Brutale, wins on all accounts for me.

I outfit my SV to do light touring -- adding a better seat and risers would have been next steps. Fighters, though comfortable, are not made for touring... no fairing, not much luggage options. Bummer.

I want a bike that can occasionally do two-up, and do it relatively comfortably. Relative, because she's used to the back of a SV650s. Brutale with its small seat, and uneven passenger bars, probably wasn't it (even though I wanted it to work...). Although I recently bought Jess a bike (Ninja 250), she's not comfortable riding on her own just yet, so this little piece was part of the equation still.

In the end, I took a hard look at what I wanted versus what I needed. The Brutale represents a lot of what I want, and only some of what I needed, and the more I looked around at options, the more I realized I need to focus on "needs" rather than just the wants. (Darn this being responsible stuff). I think at some point every motorcyclist wants an exotic type bike in the garage. Someday... someday.

HP...nice props for a great bike. As I said above, I've owned the exact same bike. It is exotic and amazing to ride. One piece of advice I've thrown at Joel and other friends: Buying a motorcycle has nothing to do with responsibility, and everything to do with emotion. I think that taking practicality out of the equation will get you to the bike you've always wanted. That, in turn, leads to more enjoyment in riding. IMO. Good luck.

I won't get much enjoyment out of riding if I can't go on longer rides with luggage and my girlfriend on the back!

Someday, when I have the garage and funds to support my habit, I'll own all the bikes I want.

This is a beautiful bike (I saw it not too long ago, and nearly bought the thing...), and Joel's a nice guy. Lives in a beautiful area as well, so maybe after you test ride and buy the bike, you can ride it to the coast. If you're looking for a large displacement fighter, I have no doubt this is your bike. Literally jaw dropping good looks, sounds beastly, and easy to ride. Someone scoop this up!

Turns out I never did unsubscribe from this thread. I was just talking about this very exact bike yesterday. Someone mentioned buying my VFR (I think he was joking), but it did get me thinking about this very bike again.

I am brand new to this forum and this post caught my eye. Joel - I recognized your name from the MV forum (I am mikjr79 on there). Too bad your selling the bike as we don't have very many Brutale riders out there. Good luck with the sale!

Owning this same bike, I can tell you that the thing is amazing! Beyond the fantastic performance, unparalleled handling, and all day comfort, the bike draws a crowd wherever it goes.

Kenn157 - I was one of the Brutale riders that you saw at Seacoast in Derry. I was getting some new tires put on the bike. The other one you saw was my friend Dave's bike. Also, don't count the bike out for passengers and baggage. I have been able to put both on my bike without any issues.
