    1969 Chevy El Camino project

This thing is for sale. Full disclosure, it's a bit of a basket case right now. Here's how it looked before I made the foolish idea to pull it apart:

The old floorpans have been cut out and the new ones (licensed reproductions) are waiting to go in. All the interior is disassembled.

Price? I don't know. If you think this is something you'd be interested in, send me a note. I bought the car for $3500 and have at least another $4000 in it in parts and the engine rebuild.

The good: It's got a professionally rebuilt steering column, professionally rebuilt Quadrajet, professionally rebuilt gauge cluster, refreshed TH350 transmission, new-in-box suspension, new-in-box brakes, rebuilt alternator, new gear-reduction starter motor.. it's a long list. Also new engine wiring harness, new front electrical wiring harness, new foglights, big-block alloy radiator... it's a long list.

Engine came from the factory as a low-performance 350cid small-block. I got modern Vortec heads professionally rebuilt and machined, with new rocker studs, new pushrods, new rockers, new springs. Block was cleaned up by a machine shop and an Eagle 383 stroker kit went in, it's actually 385 being slightly overbored. New Edelbrock intake, new Summit ceramic-coated headers, new COMP Cams camshaft, new fuel pump, new water pump, new engine fan, new fan clutch...

The bad: the interior has been completely disassembled in order to replace the floor pans. The bench seat needs to be refurbished. (Has a new steering wheel, new headliner, new gauges, new almost everything waiting to go in.) The floor pans are fucked, hence I was in the middle of replacing them. There's other rust, but nothing really substantial; amazingly most of it was contained in the old floor pans. The paint is pretty poor and will need redoing. The front windshield is cracked.

I literally have boxes and boxes of new parts to go in this thing.

    Who wants it?

Love that body style. Really wish I had the time for another project, I'd jump on this if time were available. Good luck with the sale

$3500 is probably a good place to start.

    Clear title?
How's the body under the poor paint?

I'll have to check to see if I have a title. Maine (where I bought it & registered it) doesn't require one on vehicles older than 1995.

There are small amounts of rust at the bottom of the doors in some places. There is rust in the smuggler's compartment under/behind the driver's seat. And there's some at the base of the b-pillar on the driver's side. The floor pans were the real problem, other than that it's surprisingly good.

If you're interested, the best thing is to come and check it out and see if it's something you could take on. You won't hurt my feelings at all if you get here and say "No way".

Not for me, no patience for such a project to do it justice. I do have friends into this stuff that re-build. El Caminos are desirable right now.

I have always secretly wanted an El Camino, mostly because Ween

P.S. I don't think you can get a title on pre-1995 vehicles in Maine even if you want to. Applied for one on my FJ and they sent my money & application back.

Correct, if it's title exempt in Maine, they will not issue, period.

Re: 1969 Chevy El Camino project

Is it together and running, besides the floor pans and interior being out of it?

...I'm tempted to offer my mass titled, formerly mass road registered 2009 KTM 250xc in trade, but you have no need for that, right?

Yeah, it is. Putting the interior back together is a bit of work, but it's all complete.

I've already got 4 bikes including a KTM, so thanks but no thanks

I love this car. Price is right. I'd take it off your hands but I'd have to store it for 10 years until I could find time to play with it. Layaway?
