Guys and gals I'm sorry to say I passed on this, sight unseen. I worked myself into a lather, did some Googling to remind myself of the sorts of issues I don't currently deal with via the WRX, and decided I need to simplify my vehicle situation before I consider re-complicating it.
Go get this thing, and rule the streets in the eyes of all who respect classics.

If anyone has questions about the van happy to answer them here
Selling because I don't really use it in winter and someone should. Plus I'm thinking about something sporty next spring
I'm trying to convince myself that I need another Van, or convince my Brother to want it.
My dad is a VW mechanic (has been FOREVER and he's 66) so I'm not worried about maintenance. Body work is a different story though...
Ugh. I'm back in New England around Thanksgiving. May ping you if its still available.
This is so far up my alley.

No worries Jay, it may be sold by then but if not come and check it out. Bring your dad too
SOLD
The van is back in Maine w/Jim, hope it treats him well. Now what to do with the $$, a track bike maybe?
Wow, I totally missed this post.
Curious, what was the asking price?

Sorry for never responding to this, just missed it.
The van was slow, no other way to describe it. Constant shifting was necessary to keep up on city streets. But it shifted well so that was part of the fun. On the highway 65-70mph was easy to maintain, lots of rpm left at that speed so it could have gone faster but that was my sweet spot.
Never needed to down shift on long grades but NH and western MA aren't known for long climbs, could be different if you were out west. Trailered a Honda VFR without a problem, hardly noticed a difference in the way it went down the highway
