    2003 Sportster 1200

Just throwing this out there to see if there is any interest. I bought a 2003 Sportster back before I had my daughter and time was plentiful. The goal was to copy the Ryca Motor sportster cafe https://www.rycamotors.com/sportster...cer-kit-86-03/. I pretty much ran out of time and motivation to finish it. Currently have the clip on's mounted, new grips, 19" mag wheel, cafe seat with stitching to match the black and red tank, TC Bro's mid controls, Roland Sans LED indicator, gauge mount and had a wiring harness made up by Speed Demon Cycles. Has the rear frame cut down to accept the cafe seat. Cafe seat has the Ryca motor tail light, mount and wiring assembly. Bike has 13" HD socks to raise the rear end up. Could benefit from 15" shocks but don't appear to be necessary. Has black controls/ master cylinder/ levers and mounts.

    What needs to be done?
    - Cafe seat/ tail light needs to be wired. Quick and easy job all integrated into tail light. Tail light has run/turn/brake built in.
    - Front wiring harness needs to be addressed. This was a 1200 Custom that had taller risers and all the wiring was jammed into the enclosed bar risers. I have a guy who said he would build a custom box to enclose everything and tuck it away/ keep it water tight. Haven't gotten far enough along that I've brought it to him to have this done yet though.
    - Needs front indicators.

    What's good?
    -Bike starts and idles great.
    -Has new tires
    -Title in hand
    -13k miles

Basically I'm at the point where I don't want projects or unfinished work. Just want a single bike garage for now. Track days and projects will have to wait until the future. Paid 3200$ for the bike. If there is any interest from members here my thought is about 1600$.

I haven't ridden it after chopping it but only because the other work isn't finished. Once it gets finished yes the bike rides perfectly fine. It's not a finished project but there's nothing to prevent it from being finished and ridden the same as a regular sporty.

Snagged! Seems like a good platform to play around with. Definitely need to figure some wiring and concealment, and other odds and ends to clean up. But should be a good project to putz around with over the winter.

I'll try to get some pics up when it's done later in the year. No plans for many changes from it's current state, just want to get it ride-able for now and then I'll see what, if anything, I may want to update.

Can I talk you into posting pics of the progress along the way? Me & a friend were seriously thinking of snagging this and seeing it to completion based on the Ryca kits. Our first thought was raising the rear/lowering the front. Wait! What?

Nice to meet you rob. I'll be patiently awaiting updates to this bike! One thing I forgot to mention is to check out the boxed exhaust system from Ryca. It's pricey, about 600$ I think, but it's a small compact exhaust that has a baffle to keep the sound in check and it keeps all the weight centered under the frame. It also allows you to use rear sets. From what I understand the few rearset options on the market for that bike will interfere with certain exhausts but the Ryca exhaust clears all rearset options. There are some builds, albeit a bit old now, that follow the theme I was going for on this bike over on Xlforum.net

Reddit.com/r/sportster is also a decent resource.

I like where you were going with this. I did a bit to my 02 1200, including adding 08+ dual disc touring brakes and Buell Thunderstorm heads. PeaPod, if you need any technical assistance, let me know.

I'll try to post up progress pics, but I really suck at taking pictures along the way. I'm usually just too involved with what I'm doing to stop and take a picture. And I usually think about it after I'm done with whatever project I was doing, haha!

I'm not sure, but it looks like the RYCA kits might be DOA. I looked at the website and it seems like most everything is out of stock. May just be on a one by one request type deal or something.

Anyway, I'll start a separate thread for the build in the proper forum shortly.
