    2003 Toyota Tacoma

As much as it pains me, I'm selling my Tacoma. Time to put on my big boy britches and get a family hauler so it's time for this to go.

I purchased it in April 2015 with 106k; prior to my purchase it just received a factory frame replacement, new suspension components front to back, new skid plates, and a new set of Bridgestone Duelers. Truck currently has 133,xxx. Most of my mileage was accumulated between purchase date and December 2015 for highway commuting, since then she's seen a very easy 6.7 mile commute to and from work. I have recently replaced the u-joints in the rear driveshaft, front pads and rotors, AC serviced, and of course routine maintenance done by a trusted local shop. She's equipped with the 3.4L V6, 4x4, and a 5 speed manual. I was able to average a bit north of 20 mpg highway. I have installed a Class III hitch and 4-flat connector. It's rated to tow 5,000 pounds which I haven't got near, but it did 2500 lbs worth of enclosed trailer handily.

There are a few places with some surface rust on the body, nothing I'm concerned with and much cleaner than most anything I've seen of this vintage. The only bad rust spot was in the pickup bed under the old plastic bed liner. I recently cut out the bad steel and welded in new stuff. Following that I did a spray in bed liner, it's not body shop perfect, but it's pretty damn good.

This is a good, honest truck. Also one of the last of the true light trucks, as evidenced by what car lots are selling these for. Do your research, this whip will cost you well north of $10k at Ron's Used Cars.

    Price: $9500
    Location: Rehoboth, MA
Trades: I'm looking for either an SUV or a Wagon, if you have either, lets talk.

    Re: 2003 Toyota Tacoma

    bought a 2001 SR5 auto brand new in 2001.
truck was the best ever !!! except for the frame issue

i will back up this claim.. if the frame has been done and done right, this truck is awesome!!
my truck literally needed nothing.. all i did was maintain it.. even when toyota bought it back in 2010, it still had the original battery..

    good luck !

Tom my months of research has paid off. Yesterday I smoked the most delicious damn turkey I've ever had. Perfectly moist, excellent seasoning, and a light smokey flavor from just a few chunks of apple wood. I'm going to bring them to their knees come Thanksgiving day.

    Re: 2003 Toyota Tacoma

Are these trucks a useful size? Everyone I talk to says " Full size are a better value" but they are awfully big for Boston driving.

I'd like to be able to get a full-sized road bike in back with the tailgate up, and occasionally tow up to 5500 lbs. Losing access to the company Transit next month. There are a number of early 2000's Tacomas on CL, all over the map on price.

I don't think you are getting the tailgate up in one of these.. the new generation of Tacoma will probably work.. they are bigger

8' full size bed for tailgate up big bikes

the issue is bikes are pretty long (80"); so once you factor add in cab space, a new-ish tacoma or older half ton can be roughly the same size (+/- 22")

I figure you'd want a ridgeline or trailer on a subaru?

I've already sold it! Couple of years off for me, bud. Lots to work with the property so I'm getting my fix in the dirt now. No worries though, when I come back I'll still be faster than your old ass 😈

As far as the bike in the back goes, the Taco can only fit one full sized bike with the tailgate up, loaded diagonally. It's the same story with 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks as well, unless you get them equipped with a long bed. That said you can carry 3 bikes without a trailer and the tailgate closed; 1 in the bed and then run a dual hitch carrier. Pretty easy to setup, also leaves plenty of room in the bed for everyone's gear.

I highly recommend the 1st gen (95-04) Tacomas, it's really an excellent truck. Tows 5k, gets 20+ mpg on the highway, classic style, excellent reliability. Prices are all over the map. A super clean rust free 1st gen with under 100k miles can easily reach $15k. A New England rot box with 200k will still set you back $3-4k.

It's not just the 1st gens. IIRC, the frame issues went through '08.

Looking at a used regular cab Silverado with 8' bed next week. There are some similar F150's around as well. Those will also hold a snow machine pretty easily.
