Towing with these cars is tricky, but i know Ted @ DuncanMoto was able to do it.

Why not? You "can't tow" with a lot of cars. I've seen a '99 Mk IV Jetta towing a 12' BOX trailer, and it wasn't aluminum either. Not saying I'd do it, but just curious why you couldn't tow <1000lbs w/ this thing?

Why do you say it's tricky?

With the way the turbo loads? Is that a guess, or have you read something about Mini's saying that? All cars' owners manuals in the US say they don't recommend towing and that it may void the warranty.

Ted, any problems towing with yours?

well think about it this way. how much does an average sportbike weigh? 450lbs give or take . . its just like having 2 fat people in your backseat.

I guess I wasn't specific enough in my original question. I was asking if there were any known issues with Mini's towing bikes. I wasn't looking for what could possibly maybe happen if a car in general towed bikes. I've been towing for years, with only four cylinder cars, I understand that weight is being added to the total moving mass (however I'd disagree that it's like having two fat people in your backseat - the bike(s)'s weight is not nearly centered over the car, but instead is being pulled behind the car and supported largely by the trailer's wheels...so really it's like pulling two fat people on wheels behind you).

true, as long as theres not to much tongue weight and the trailer is balanced i can't foresee any issues

    No known issues with towing.
You just need to set up your tongue weight properly.
If you don't know what I'm talking about, just call me for an explanation on how to do it.
A lot of people never set their tongue weight properly and you all should.

    I never had a problem.
These cars are supercharged not turbo (until 2007), but either way... Most 18 wheelers and hauler trucks have turbos. No issues. In fact it works better that way.
MINI dealers used to offer a tow package, but there were the unfortunate few idiots who overloaded or underloaded the tongue weight and caused accidents, so MINI adopted a stance of NO TOW RATING as a matter of liability.
I'd rather tow 1,000 lbs. than drive with 500 pounds of fatass in my back seat.

Mite be a liability issue if ever an accident since no tow rate for the car...
