    2005 SV650 - Winter Project for ya

Looking to get rid of at least one more bike before the snow flies here.. perfect winter project for somebody.

Picked up this damaged '05 SV650 in the spring and spent the summer hunting down and buying parts for a frame & GSXR front end swap. MANY hours hunting all this down. Have almost everything needed for a sweet running bike.

Engine starts right up and sounds solid. Est about 20-25k on the motor, street miles.

$1,500 NESR price, so far haven't put this out anywhere else.

    Here's what was damaged:

    - Front forks wrecked
    - Crossmember (non-structural) section of the frame split at a weld by the radiator. it appears straight still and may well be salvaged but would not ride it
    - Muffler toast
    - Rearsets signfiicantly bent, but still seem to work(ish)
    - Radiator smushed
    - headlight missing
    - Speedo gauge/digital don't work but all lights do

Parts purchased for rebuild (included in sale):

    - Clean straight 2005 frame
    - Clean straight 2005 GSXR600 front end (forks & triples)
    - New Yuasa battery YTX12-BS
    - New black china radiator
    - Motion pro clutch cable, cable adjuster & nut
    - krator frame sliders
    - GSXR steering damper
    - Jardine muffler

Also have a spare 2003 frame & swingarm I could throw in for a bit extra?

So, all the major bits are here for a good bike. I have a title for the damaged frame and the new frame but haven't transfered to my name yet. If you want to get it street legal we can get it worked out, and you'll need to find a headlight & speedo.

Kind of a bummer to let go after all the effort sourcing parts - would be an excellent winter project for someone though.

I'll get some more pics of all parts if there's any interest.

If I still have this when the snow comes it'll probably be next to impossible to move this bastard from my shed though!

Let me know if you decide to part it out. I need a cheap Gen 2 motor.

Highly unlikely but I'll let you know if plans change. Lots of footwork sourcing parts this year, still plan to rebuild if it doesn't sell very soon.

Well, we do live only a mile away from one another... And Mike's heated basement would be a good place to tear the thing down. but with him being in Maine, and us being in southern CT, it would have to be one HELL of a better deal to justify the drive.

Fully meeting my expectations for a NESR FS thread

I might be able to arrange delivery for $1,500. Pickup for $1,300

Re: 2005 SV650 - Winter Project for ya

The current 2005 frame (the broken one) has a Maine title that has been signed over to me, and I haven't applied for a new copy yet.

The new 2005 frame has a Georgia salvage title that has been signed over to me, and I haven't applied for a new copy yet.

If someone wanted to get this street legal, I would take the title to the town office, pay sales tax and title application fee. After 4-6 weeks I would have a title in my name that I could sign over. Maybe there is a faster/easier way, but it would probably depend on your local town office.

I’m not sure how the Georgia title would work out in ct. The Maine frame all id have to do if it was clean title would be to get a vin verification done at the dmv.

Can the broken frame be rewelded at the part you’re talking about? And if so it be road worthy?

If someone wanted to get it street legal, they could do that legwork on their own. All they need is the current title signed by the last titled owner.

    DMV: Salvaged (Totaled) Vehicles
Would be quite a bit of effort to get it street worthy. Either:
    A) repair the Maine frame (if the title is clean), get VIN check, and pay taxes/title/reg, add whatever cheapo lights/signals/speedometer you want
    B) swap frames, install all DOT approved lighting and speedometer, get the salvage inspection done (and VIN check), pay taxes/title/reg
or the least hassle and cheapest option:
    C) Repair or swap frame, track the hell out of it

Re: 2005 SV650 - Winter Project for ya

A would be the easiest if the title is clean.
B would kinda suck to do but it’s doable.
C would be the best but I don’t do track days (not yet).

Tekime let me know if the Maine frame is a clean title. And take a picture of the damaged frame If possible.

Re: 2005 SV650 - Winter Project for ya

Yeah I kind of posted it here thinking it would be a great track bike project, but my plans are to do the frame swap, find a headlight/speedo and get it street legal in the spring. Chances are I'll be moving it into storage this week but still open to a sale at least a few more days. I'd be happy to facilitate a new title/helping that along, but would ask any fees on top of asking price are covered like new title fees etc.

Maine frame is a salvage title from Amica insurance, signed off by the insurer and the recipient has not been filled out.

Here's a pic of the frame damage that I can see. There is a "crossmember" thing and the end has a split near the weld:

I can get some more pics tomorrow if you are really interested, the tank has some dents but aside from the damage listed most everything else looks OK.

That can be welded by a professional welder I feel. And if you don’t have the repcient filled in then it whoever takes it can then do the rest of the work I think. Hhhmmm I’m temped on this as I’m looking for a commuter bike. With a new job I have a 45 minute commute one way and I don’t want to put the miles on my hayabusa or my car. You’re located in ME?

Yeah right outside Portland. Petorius has a sick deal on a 2003 with a zillion nice parts here on NESR too... just in case that's better suited for you.

Had to start it up today to move it and did a quick vid. Muffler is half on so it sounds like a beast, lol

    Here's the tank:

(hmm, the pic makes the entire tank look warped, it's not pretty but just the dents on the side there)

And all the new bits (minus the frames/swingarm which are in my basement - the '05 frame is identical though)
