    1996 Suzuki DR350SE

    1996 Suzuki DR350SE

    Posting here first. $3400.

DR350SE -- the "S" is for street legal, the "E" is for electric start. This is a very capable dual sport -- NOT A TOY -- the DR350 shares much architecture with the DR650. 350cc 4-stroke with a 6-speed gearbox -- that's right, six (6) -- not a pathetic 5-speed like a DRZ400. Air-cooled and electronic ignition, no other electronics to screw up. In other words, simple and reliable. Suspension has adjustable preload and damping, front and rear. Yes, you can plonk, then the power really comes on after 5K and revs to 9K. 4336 miles.

History -- I got it a couple years ago from a friend who had just snagged it from the original owner who used it for plonking around the ranch.

The bike was all stock and running well when I got it, then I serviced, updated, and upgraded lots on it. "Completely gone through" as they say on Marketplace. Valve check, carb overhaul, tires and tubes, wheels trued and balanced. Fork oil drained and flushed. It needed front brake pads, so I went with Galfer and added a Galfer SS braided line, overhauled the master cylinder and caliper with OEM parts. All lights ugraded to LEDs. (Except for the turn signals which are more involved, something about "switching" an electrical thing I'm unclear on.) Recent YUASA battery. Added OZ-USA LED spots on a JNS bracket. FIAMM horn. JNS rear master cylinder guard. Changed oil and filter 2 maybe 3 times, new magnetic drain plugs, drilled and wired. New chain and sprockets. Wider rider pegs. Rear rack from ProCycle, the one that takes a Rotopax adapter so you can attach the Rotopax one-gallon container and go everywhere. New IMS 3.5 gallon gas tank. Lowered 2" with Kouba links, and shorter side stand (DR650 stand works perfectly). Original tool kit in mint condition, owners handbook. Two ignition keys, two fork lock keys. Probably some other things. You can continue to accessorize, just go to procycle.com and you can spend spend spend. Excellent parts availability, OEM and aftermarket. The FB page DR 350 Riders is fantastic, good group, no bee-ess.

    Q: Why are you selling?
A: I wanted a smallish bike and even though the DR wasn't what I was looking for, I took it -- easy deal, delivered to my house.

MA title in my name in hand. In Arlington MA with EZ access from MA Route 2 and Mass. Ave.

    Re: 1996 Suzuki DR350SE

I used to have a 1994 DR350SE, the first with the magic switch. Excellent bike. The engine was just big enough to be comfortable on the highway (the 250's struggle a bit), the transmission was perfectly geared as opposed to the poorly geared DRZ400S, and lack of liquid cooling made it lighter and less maintenance (I think the wet weight was around 296 lbs if I remember). I wish Suzuki would make a modern version of the DR350SE - the DRZ400S was a big change and in many ways not for the better. The gearing is awful, the seat height much taller, but the suspension/power is better. Weight went up by 20 lbs and the center of gravity is higher.

IN any case, good luck with your sale. You should have no problem selling it - there is a cult following of them

I’m going to show my dad this and hope I can convince him to buy.

For those who haven’t seen this, it’s clean enough to eat off of.

    Re: 1996 Suzuki DR350SE

    Thanks, guys [smilee] [thumbsup]

Bike is ready to go. Once I decide to sell a bike, I stop riding it.

Oh, one more "extra" bonus for the right buyer -- a Dunlop D606 knobby for the rear 4.00-18, with about 50 miles on it. These are often paired with a Pirelli MT21 on the front. If you were going to be riding more on dirt, the knobbies and the alt gearing (46T) would be great. Right now for tires, i went with Kenda K270 which have a good reputation as a two-way dual sport tire.

Then again, if no one buys it before winter, I might keep it and build it like this

If my other bikes were sold I'd be taking a real hard look at this. Sounds delightfully setup, especially with the big tank.
