FWIW, I have had a few new riders coming through the MSF course who have bought these bikes and have said that they are a GREAT starter bike.

Are these the ones with the BMW-built mills?

    Maybe that was the 650?

They are very appealing for a first bike

+1 for this as a beginner bike. Similar to a Ninja 250, but more torque and a more aggressive riding position.

is there any concern over the reliability of the motor and availability of parts?

Shouldn't be. Hyosung is a solid company.

you'd be able to correct me, but didn't hyosung have ties with the SV portion of Suzuki?

    Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry9530/4.7.0.75 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

They used to make the sv engines. Then they reverse engineered it for their own 650. I have heard mixed reviews.

Hyosung assembles bikes for Suzuki in some asian markets, but near as I can tell they never actually made SV engines. The Hyosung motor was designed by engineers who worked for Suzuki at one point, hence the similarities in basic ideas, but the engines have some big differences as well. The machines are being imported into the US under a couple different labels, Hyosung, UM Alpha, and another that I can't recall off the top of my head.

word...from what I heard there was a "partnership" with Suzuki, motors are legit though. First saw one at MOM's in 2007 and had a lengthy chat about the bikes with one of the guys there.
I'm surprised that there are not more of the 650's on the track...cheaper than an SV, and with the $$$ saved, you can upgrade the shit bits to make one hell of a bike...thats all speculation however.
Thats a great deal for a good starter bike though...or a commuter...great riding position too!

    Re: 2007 Hyosung GT250R

I was seriously considering a fully built Hyosung 650 that a dealership in the midwest built, before I got the GS. Carroza(sp?) wheels, ohlins shock, don't remember what they did for fork internals, etc. Spare wheels, warmers, stands, bunch of other stuff. Ended up selling it for just over $5k. It was a turnkey Hyosung race setup. The rider got first or second overall in a couple classes with it if I recall correctly.

If I could get one for dirt cheap now I'd give it a go.

    Re: 2007 Hyosung GT250R

When I first heard about Hyosung, they weren't all that great...

GF is looking for a starter bike, maybe we should look into the newer Hyosung 250's? They look better than the Ninja, but I was worried about resale, parts, and all that...

Just buy it for her! MOMs and Naults Suzuki have all the parts you would need, and I'll bet you 10 bucks this bike will re-sell better than a Ninja!

Did you or did you not just jump all over people for hijacking a for sale thread?

If you're not offering constructive information on the item for sale or interested in buying it, you shouldn't be posting in a FS thread.

    LOL.

Wait, a NESR thread expected to stay on track? (Pun intended...?). I'd say that's almost impossible. Might wanna just try to get a few guys and lift it. ... and only I will think that's funny.

We're just chit-chattin' until Q posts "detailed pics"... yeah... that's it.

This is more than I wanted to spend for the g/f's first bike. We have a very good lead right now on an older (1998) Ninja 250. I was just curious to Hyosung's build quality overall, as I didn't hear great things about them at first, but that was several years ago now.
