    2012 Ducati Multistrada Touring S - $5500

2012 Ducati Multistrada Touring S. ABS, bags (not pictured, but excellent condition, they are in my basement). 13xxx miles. Never tipped over or down. Bought and serviced by Seacoast. Always garaged. In addition to the factory panniers it includes a huge Givi top box with bracket already mounted to bike. Fancy custom carbon fiber low windscreen from Italy, the guy that makes the helicopter blades for Eurocopters or some such. Forget the name. Bike also has the uprated heavy duty rear spring for 2-up riding and/or lots of luggage installed (the regular spring will be included).

Disclosures.. when the engine gets hot in traffic the clutch slips (not sure this is the right terminology). It creeps forward with the clutch pulled in. This is only when the bike is totally heat soaked. I put a fancy slave cylinder on it (Oberon I believe) and changed the fluid, and this helped enormously, but the issue does come and go. From what I have read this is an issue kind of endemic to these bikes due to the heat they put out. A guy somewhere was manufacturing some kind of heat shield that was easily installed to remedy the issue, but I never bought it and put it on. So someone smarter and more patient than me could make it right pretty easily I think.

Second (minor, I think) issue is that the bike also has the pretty well known front fork clunk at certain low speeds and surfaces. It doesn't bother me that much, it's a pretty well known issue, and I think there is some kind of shim kit from Ducati that remedies that. I figured I would wait until the forks needed service/rebuilding to tackle that.

Overall an excellent running and looking bike at a great price, ready to ride. No time for riding, kids, work. Clean MA title in hand.

Dani, thanks for being a great buyer on the STR and setting me up with the buyer for the Multistrada. Enjoy the bikes and see you on the road sometime when I get back in the game. For archival purposes dankatz is a super great dude to deal with! /thread

    Now that it has sold...

I will acknowledge this was the deal of the century, but anyone else notice how much Ducatis have dropped in value? Jesus. This bike was over $20k 6 years ago. Even without the fire sale, you would have been lucky to get $7500 for it.

Yeah, used bikes in general aren't worth much, but euro bikes take a big hit. Ducatis partly because the advances in tech in the new ones are significant, making older ones less desirable to most.

Yea as the owner of a 2011 MTS1200 S Touring that probably isn't as clean as this one... this thread gave me some "aw wtf?" feelings. I wish I paid $5500 for it lol. Luckily I plan on it being worth nothing by the time I'm done with it and have no desire to upgrade currently.

I just sold 1 of my bikes due to limited riding time, but this deal was still SO dam tempting I had to spend the KTM $$$ on something else quick

Same here. I bought my hyper new, which was stupid, but I will keep it as long as I can. It's already worth little...

    Re: 2012 Ducati Multistrada Touring S - $5500

It was a deliberate decision on my part to price this bike at a price point that would attract immediate attention and make haggling and hemming and hawwing redundant. Given my life situation, I had made an emotional break from my bikes, and built myself up to this point by cleaning the house out of all the other non-bike accumulations we don't need or want (baby stuff outgrown, unused tools, households, other stuff). The bikes were the last thing to go, and by then I had the momentum up and I knew if I tried to sell them I'd need someone to take them ASAP or I would get cold feet and sit on it for another year or three and they still wouldn't get ridden. I gave the original bill of sale to the new owner and yeah, it hurt to see the original sale price.

That said, sometimes in life you are fortunate enough to acquire a great toy.. my wife and I were DINKs when I bought the Multi, and I had my fun with it. I am glad to have the space back in my garage and I'm glad it is going to a guy that I know is going to take care of it but also rip it up like it should be ridden. It just made sense to fire sale this and come back to the party someday in the future with a fresh start.

This might be my next bike. I love the multi, but never ride it. Kind of want a hooligan bike again that I could do track days with.

I had a duke 690...definitely fun, tons of torque, but petered out a little early at 95mph.

I also had one. The Hyper is a LOT more bike at 100HP and the twin is so smooth. It actually backs it in a lot easier too.

Odd that I could get a clapped out DRZ400 to 101 indicated (figure ~90 real).
That said-and I realize I'm posting this to the wrong crowd-just how fast do you need to go, really?!

It's not how fast exactly. On the street it's nice to have enough HP to cruise at 70-80 and not be tapped out and tucked in.

I don't really ride on the road much anymore, but the one place I noticed it the most was the double lanes going up the hill when you are traveling from Bennington to Wilmington VT. Maybe route 2 headed to North Adams, too.

I'm mostly thinking of a bike I could do trackdays at NYST and Jersey.

Is the multi just too big for the occasional track day?

Depends on your track history and goals. It can be fine for someone who just want the occasional no speed limits ride.
