    2012 Gary Fisher Marlin SS

Just got back from NEMBAfest, had a great time, and got to ride this bike for about 10 miles since I've bought it. (spent most my on demo bikes, bought this just to have a bike just in case for the festival. There are a few upgrades from the pic and specs in the link as follows:
    http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes...single_speed/#
    1. low quality suspension fork has been replaced with Niner rigid fork (made with reynolds 853 steel), makes the bike much lighter
    2. stock tires replaced with upgraded Specialized low profile knob tires, make it a little quicker on hard pack
    3. cable disc brakes tossed and Shimano Deore hydraulic discs installed, much better stopping power
    4. stock grips replaced with Oury Kawasaki green ODI lock on grips (nice cushion to offset the rigid front end
    5. Sram pc-1 chain upgrade
BIKE HAS NO PEDALS! (cheap pedals at most decent bike shops start around 20 bucks)
MSRP is 649.99, and I have yet to see this bike available at any trek dealers around yet.
fork normally goes for $179.99, plus the hydraulic brakes, grips, and chain.
    Asking $700obo.
I have sold quite a few bikes on here with no problems, feel free to ask for previous buyers, I strive to never dissapoint when I sell anything.
    Thanks for looking!

Just out of curiousity, why does the title say 2012 gary fisher marlin ss but the pictures are of a trek? If I had the cash I would snag this, would be great fun to ride.

Re: 2012 Gary Fisher Marlin SS

Trek fully absorbed Fisher some time last year to consolidate the two brands. the bikes are now part of the Trek-branded 'Gary Fisher Collection'.

sweet bike! cant believe no one snagged it.

Hmmmm. What are you putting on it?

Also, how do you like the 29ers compared to standard. I have never ridden one. . .

Re: 2012 Gary Fisher Marlin SS

i may just leave it alone and keep it for sale to be honest. if not, new wheels, brakes and fork, which would jack up the price. the 29ers make a big difference, a little slower up to speed, and a tad bit slower steering, but you can roll everything. i went from a 5" travel trail bike to a 29er hardtail and don't plan on going back. the whole single speed thing is just for punishment.

Re: 2012 Gary Fisher Marlin SS

the slower steering thing, and slower acceleration are really negligible imo. it's a friggin bicycle for chrissake. and yeah, they roll everything. i love mine.
as far as single speed, i think it makes you take a little more aggressive approach to the trail. while your buddies are busy downshifting and slowing down, you're pedaling balls to get up and over that hill or obstacle.

Re: 2012 Gary Fisher Marlin SS

I should have been more specific. While it is a bicycle, the only gearing issues are the same used on a 26, which just makes it feel a little slower in my opinion. As far as steering, there are always ways to speed it up, ie shorter stem like i threw on mine over the stock. The singlespeed thing was done to make me a stronger rider in general, like chipper stated, you need to learn to anticipate more for the ups and keep momentum up by pumping going down.

Back up at $425 (since there are no pedals). Just ordered a winter project, so this has to go.
