    CR500 on/off road, supermoto

    SOLD
I have my 96 Honda CR500 supermoto for sale, I listed it on eBay for $3250 but I am also taking best offers. Not in a rush I don't think, but cash is king and I will take less than $3250.

I added more pics taken on July 31. It is a dirty bike, it cleans up real nice especially the RAD rims they have not been recently cleaned but are in *mint* condition. Also included a couple pics of the dirt wheels.

This is a 1996 Honda CR500R which has been modified for on and off road use. The bike has aftermarket bars, levers, bark busters, chain, sprockets, plastics, air filter, and much more. The frame is painted a nice orange from the original purple. I have two full sets of wheels and sprocket sizes 14T, 15T, 44T, and 49T that come with it. Besides the other stuff listed below, it comes with an OEM chain and a gold O-ring chain (installed) and extra master links.

One wheel set is knobby tires on the OEM rims and the other is a RAD brand supermoto wheel set (currently installed).

The supermoto front and rear wheel setup includes good condition tires, 17” RAD rims, RAD hubs, RAD spokes and all the spacers and bearings required. I routinely swap between the dirt and supermoto wheels. Everything needed is included. The bike runs awesome on the road and in the dirt. Exhaust pipe is heat wrapped to the rear FMF muffler.

This is registered on the road in NH, so along with a bill of sale I can provide the buyer with a copy of the current registration if requested. NH does not require titles for vehicles over 15 years old. No turn signals or speedometer required either.

Installed road items (besides the supermoto wheels!) include handlebar mirror, LED brake/tail light (to the front and rear brake light switches, already installed), and Halogen acerbic front headlights. These run off batteries. This thing is very road-worthy and easy to drive! But not for a beginner!

Comes with an extra spark plug, spark plug holder, service manual, extra 2-stroke oil, Honda transmission fluid, aftermarket kickstand, and plenty of extra OEM/aftermarket goodies. Again the bike runs excellent!

The bike has no inspection sticker but if required for the sale I can get one. More pictures can be taken upon request.

Do those SM wheels have the cush drive in the rear? And would you sell the sm wheels separate?

    Also: one picture???

Yes. On the Yam side WR hubs are preferred over YZ units for the cush for example.

Ktm used to sell sumo wheels with a Cush drive. I have no idea if they still do though.

Back on topic though. Good luck with selling it I love my cr500.

No you'd be right. Most sumos do not have a cush drive except for the more street oriented ones.

However...you can get sprockets that have a cush built into them.

Its weird, Ive driven my 600 rotax powered ride up to 82, 1 cyl, unbalanced wheels.... and it isnt that bad.

I find it hard to believe the cush is worth it.

But thanks for then answer, smutty

It's not about the ride as much as it is transmission and gear wear. The cush drive limits the amount of immediate torque applied to the gears and spreads the torque out over a longer amount of time than without. It helps your sprockets, chain, input shaft, transmission, and other parts last longer.

Usually it's not required for dirt bikes because the dirt acts as a cush drive because of the amount of traction it provides.

Bingo. And RAD does make cush drive hubs. That's why I asked.

No cush drive in these, they are the RAD "eco" series which are supposed to be the strongest from that manufacturer, and are also what they reccommended to me. they're also at the top of their hub price range..

thanks I really do enjoy riding this fine piece of machinery. my friend has an 02 520sx with a full ktm sumo setup bought new with the bike and his are not cush either.

seeing as how the cush drive hub is only $30 more than the ones I have, I find it surprising that RAD did not try to sell me those when they recommended me a set, and instead recommended the ECO series.

with me riding it 95% dirt (often with the sumo tires), 5% street, I feel confident when I say that there should be no adverse wear and tear due to street riding because of how little I do, and how much dirt I shred.

5th gear is the weakest link in the 500 transmission. I've asked cushsprockets.com for a sprocket but they still seem to be having quality control issues. I see you added more pics

Two questions: Are the frame guards home-made? Why is the headlight/number plate in front of the brake line?

More pics is always better, 1000 words each! The side boot guard/frame protectors are home-made yes, they actually came out fantastic using some thin aluminum and robber hosing. as far as the number plate, I was actually fooling around with the lighting before those pics. the number plate does sit behind the brake line, although it is not necessary, but for the headlights to aim straight it needs to be behind the line. I usually ride only during he day so it doesn't matter.
