educate me please but isnt most of the sportbikes torque specs in the range of 10 - 40lbs? that craftmans torque wrench is rated 20 to 250 lbs. so isnt it pointless to get this particular wrench??

You need 250 ft lbs for the drain plug and the muffler bearings.

I honestly had no idea which was best suited for a sportbike, so I just got the one that was in the middle (10-75 ft-lbs)

Damnit I already have that torque wrench.

Although I did stop by sears on friday and buy a big tool set on huge discount... great deal. Wasn't even crowded at all. I had someone wait outside in the car so I didn't have to park, I ran in, bought it, and was out in 5 minutes.

    You did the right thing.

For most things on a sportbike you're best with a 3/8 drive.

just got an email from Sears:
    Dear Sears.com Customer,
Thank you for shopping at Sears.com. We are experiencing a delay in sending order confirmations due to the volume of orders received during the Thanksgiving holiday. Please be assured we have received and are processing your order.

Mine was on my door step when i got home yesterday.
Bad news is the wife said I have to wrap it up and put it under the tree.
I'll get around to that right after I use it a couple times.

Bolt Depot - Recommended Torque for Metric Bolts

just a couple quick touque value tables

anyone else have any that might be better?

Obviously the shop manual for your specific bike will have better detail to it.

well I just went to pick mine up an hour ago. waited in line at the tool dept for a guy to unlock the torque wrenches. then told me to go upstairs to the other side of the store for merchandise pickup. waited in line there to have some asshole manager tell me i'm all set, without doing any recepts or paperwork. at this point, it's 30 mins of waiting an no torque wrench. I go back downstairs to say "F this, I want my $ back now". The moron at the desk tells me I cant return it. I ask for the # for corporate customer relations, which he cant find. After going through 2 more managers, I end up taking the wrench home and getting the # for corporate. Fuckin 45 mins in the store for a "quick pickup". Might have been my last purchase from Sears.

Wow sorry to hear that, I have had pretty good luck with them over the years, I was using a set of snips that I bought for wire that was way to thick, I ended up snapping them, exchanged them no questions asked, the basic transaction was here is the broken tool , okay go pick one out that looks similar , here it is, have a nice day.
Same thing with a ratchet handle, I broke using a pipe as a breaker bar, and snaped the gear inside the ratchet, it took me longer to find one similar on the wall than it did to do the transaction.

I will say though that their in home service dept could use some work. I was going to have them come out to look at my lawn tractor and they said it was going to be 6 weeks to get an appt. I ended up finally fixing it myself.

I hate to say it but you should have paid the $7 for delivery and save the hassle.

i regret not paying for shipping too. i actually broke a rachet with a pipe before too, and got another one right away. the torque wrench only has a 1 year warranty though.

Torque wrenches usually get broken by some idiot that uses them for a breaker bar.

Note to said person ... you do not put a pipe on a torque wrench.
You do not use your foot on a torque wrench.
You do not bang on the torque wrench to free a stuck nut.
You do not exceed the click under any circumstance.

    Torque wrenches are delicate instruments.

Breaker bars are the tool to use for all of the above scenarios.

Wait a second....your NOT supposed to use a torque wrench with an extended pipe on the handle?

Your were a bit vague though. Can I kick the torque wrench if I wear sneakers?

May Murphy help you strip your next oil drain plug and while at it, why not a couple of sparkplug helicoils ....

I have 3 Crapsmen torque wrenches ... one is 25 years old and they are still within 5% of rated torque. My last torque wrench was bought by the idiot who borrowed it and used it as a breaker bar. I don't lend tools anymore.
Not worth the whining and sandy vaginas that come with replacing them.

If they can't afford to buy them, then they can't afford to use them and replace them if they break.

i did once.. with a husky i bought used on ebay. snapped the drive right off. took it back to home depot and got a new one no questions asked. i don't think craftsman does that with their torque wrenches.
