It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?

What size? I might have an old quarter keg lying around, I'll check tonight. Pretty sure I don't have any half-barrels, or "standard" kegs. As far as I know only restaurants/bars get the full sized ones.

Yea im looking for what they call a half barrel keg. Its about 3 feet tall and 15.5 gallons.

If you end up having this one or even a smaller one let me know and well work out a deal.

Basically this is what im trying to do.

Get a keg and drink the beer, then keep it. The deposit is like $20.

I'll check tonight, and again tomorrow morning if looking in the dark through the snow fails. I'm doubtful I have a half barrel, although it is possible. There's a pretty good chance I have a quarter/third, unless it got tossed in a cleanup. No deal required if I have one, just come get it (Dover, NH nor northeastern MA) or cover shipping and I'll send it to you. I'll post back from home when I've had a chance to check.

Have they gone way up? I don't recall them being that much, we used to get them at a liq on a corner somewhere in Allston/Brighton. Thanks to the amazing memory of Drop, I believe the name of the place is Blanchards, on the corner of Harvard & Brighton. You may want to give them a call if you go that route, if none of us can dig one out for you. I'm still going to try. Once I recover from the shock that Jamie remembered what city my friend lived in, and what liq we used, many years ago, that is.

You could probably shop around and buy a deep fryer kit for less than what a keg would cost you.

but then you wouldn't have a keg as a deep fryer so its up to you.

Re: Anyone got an empty beer keg

Just so you guys know 1/2 kegs (15.5 gallons) cost us ~$110 ea. new. Our kegs were disappearing at an alarming rate when Stainless Steel prices spiked. It seams that allot of people were getting more for them as scrap than the deposit cost. That is why the deposit went up, it needed to be more than the scrap value.

Now as far a making one into a kettle for home brewing or a cooker they work OK. You will need to cut it which isn't easy without a plasma cutter. It will also require a bit of clean up after or you will have a nasty jagged edge. You will also need to either make a lid for it or find/buy one that will fit the hole you cut or fit the top.

Other reasons that the kegs don't work so well is that the shape is not as easy to clean, and the thickness of the SS doesn't transfer heat very evenly. Yadda yadda yadda.

Personally a proper pot/kettle designed to be one will work better for you. I know a bunch of Home brew guys who started with converted kegs and switched to actual kettles for all of the above reasons.

All this said I might have some kegs that we can not use around that I could sell you at scrap $$, which I believe is about $35 right now.

    Cheers, Steve

I would definitley be interested in grabbing any of these from you. I will be using them for homebrewing so let me know. Ideally if you had 3 of these I would love to pick them up. You seem like you know about homebrewing so Im looking to make a single tier setup. Probably not as nice as the one attached but looks dont make beer.
